AMAZING INDIA.
India is a country with many facets, most of which we are familiar with.
From the snowcapped peaks in Kashmir to the sandy beaches of the
south, the vast deserts of the west to the hilly region of the east,
we have seen images of this beautiful country all around. But there is so much
about India that we don’t know.
Like the fact that it is the cradle of the world’s oldest,
largest and most continuous civilization.
Did you know that India is a country that has never invaded another country?
In a history spanning 100,000 years India has remained a uniquely
peaceful nation that has at different times been ruled by different invading conquerors.
Not surprisingly, today India is the world’s largest
democracy. But that’s not all. Varanasi, an ancient Indian city is the only
city in the world that has been continuously inhabited for the longest
duration in history.
A center of learning, the world’s first university was established in
Takshashila in India in 700 B.C. Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language is the
mother of all European languages. Algebra, geometry and calculus, all originated in India.
The decimal system, ayurveda (the oldest school of
medicine known to man) and surgery (pioneered by Sushruta) also came from India.
Not surprisingly, India is the only country in the world
besides Japan and U.S.A. which has indigenously built a super computer.
It is no wonder that Albert Einstein said, “We owe a lot to the Indians,
who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery
could have been made."
