faith

Faith the size of a mustard seed
Will move a mighty mountain
That's what His word tells me
To believe is to trust in Him

To know that His word is truth
To know that He will do as He says
To stand on those words
And accept them through his Grace

So why do I doubt
Why do I limit Him
Why do I fear
Is fear really a sin

Faith the size of a mustard seed
Is what I have and more
Yet I whine and cry
When adversity knocks on my door

I know my God is there
To wipe away my tears
I know my God is there
To calm all my fears

I know my God is there
To fix all that's broken
I know my God can do all things
With only one word spoken

He's the creator of all the universe
He's the creator of my soul
He's the reason I'm alive
He can make me whole

He takes me by the hand
He walks me through the dark
I've trusted Him through all the years
To chase away the enemy's sharks

Yet when a new problem arises
When I'm faced with sadness again
I cry and whine and wail
I guess I never learn

Faith the size of a mustard seed
Will move a mighty mountain
Nothing is impossible with God
When you simply trust in Him!

coconut water

A single coconut may contain from 200-1000ml of water in it.
Coconut water cotains naturally occurring sugars and many essential
nutrients like sodium, potassium, calcium, iron, manganese,
magnesium and zinc.

1. Coconut water is a natural, refreshing isotonic drink. It means
coconut water is identical to human blood plasma and is the highest
source of electrolytes and nutrients needed for the blood.

2. It is also a great blood purifier.

3. Aptly called "the fluid of life", it helps to regulate body heat
in the summers. By helping the body to cool down, it would help to
hydrate the body, and prevent and arrest different bodily ailments.

4. A bad hangover of the night can easily be treated with coconut
water. Lemon juice added to coconut water would help to relieve of
a hangover!

5. It contains many bioactive enzymes which help in our digestion
and metabolism.

6. It is also a great source of B-complex vitamins that the human
body requires.

7. The treatment of diarrhea, constipation or dehydration is aided
by coconut water as it replenishes you with 250mg of potassium and
105mg of sodium in 100 ml of water. It can prevent hyponatremia
(low sodium levels in blood) and hypokalemia (low potassium levels)
in people with different medical conditions.

8. Coconut water can be applied topically to treat chicken pox
itch, rashes and sun burn. Soak a small towel with coconut water
and pat on the area.

Have a healthy living!

Strange Human body

Your Stomach Secretes Corrosive Acid
There's one dangerous liquid no airport security can confiscate from you: It's in your gut. Your stomach cells secrete hydrochloric acid, a corrosive compound used to treat metals in the industrial world. It can pickle steel, but mucous lining the stomach wall keeps this poisonous liquid safely in the digestive system, breaking down lunch.

Body Position Affects Your Memory
Can't remember your anniversary, hubby? Try getting down on one knee. Memories are highly embodied in our senses. A scent or sound may evoke a distant episode from one's childhood. The connections can be obvious (a bicycle bell makes you remember your old paper route) or inscrutable. A recent study helps decipher some of this embodiment. An article in the January 2007 issue of Cognition reports that episodes from your past are remembered faster and better while in a body position similar to the pose struck during the event.

Bones Break (Down) to Balance Minerals
In addition to supporting the bag of organs and muscles that is our body, bones help regulate our calcium levels. Bones contain both phosphorus and calcium, the latter of which is needed by muscles and nerves. If the element is in short supply, certain hormones will cause bones to break downeupping calcium levels in the bodyeuntil the appropriate extracellular concentration is reached.

Much of a Meal is Food For Thought
Though it makes up only 2 percent of our total body weight, the brain demands 20 percent of the body's oxygen and calories. To keep our noggin well-stocked with resources, three major cerebral arteries are constantly pumping in oxygen. A blockage or break in one of them starves brain cells of the energy they require to function, impairing the functions controlled by that region. This is a stroke.

Thousands of Eggs Unused by Ovaries
When a woman reaches her late 40s or early 50s, the monthly menstrual cycle that controls her hormone levels and readies ova for insemination ceases. Her ovaries have been producing less and less estrogen, inciting physical and emotional changes across her body. Her underdeveloped egg follicles begin to fail to release ova as regularly as before. The average adolescent girl has 34,000 underdeveloped egg follicles, although only 350 or so mature during her life (at the rate of about one per month). The unused egg follicles then deteriorate. With no potential pregnancy on the horizon, the brain can stop managing the release of ova.

Puberty Reshapes Brain Structure, Makes for Missed Curfews
We know that hormone-fueled changes in the body are necessary to encourage growth and ready the body for reproduction. But why is adolescence so emotionally unpleasant? Hormones like testosterone actually influence the development of neurons in the brain, and the changes made to brain structure have many behavioral consequences. Expect emotional awkwardness, apathy and poor decision-making skills as regions in the frontal cortex mature.

Cell Hairs Move Mucus
Most cells in our bodies sport hair-like organelles called cilia that help out with a variety of functions, from digestion to hearing. In the nose, cilia help to drain mucus from the nasal cavity down to the throat. Cold weather slows down the draining process, causing a mucus backup that can leave you with snotty sleeves. Swollen nasal membranes or condensation can also cause a stuffed schnozzle.

Big Brains Cause Cramped Mouths
Evolution isn't perfect. If it were, we might have wings instead of wisdom teeth. Sometimes useless features stick around in a species simply because they're not doing much harm. But wisdom teeth weren't always a cash crop for oral surgeons. Long ago, they served as a useful third set of meat-mashing molars. But as our brains grew our jawbone structure changed, leaving us with expensively overcrowded mouths.

The World Laughs with You
Just as watching someone yawn can induce the behavior in yourself, recent evidence suggests that laughter is a social cue for mimicry. Hearing a laugh actually stimulates the brain region associated with facial movements. Mimicry plays an important role in social interaction. Cues like sneezing, laughing, crying and yawning may be ways of creating strong social bonds within a group.

Your Skin Has Four Colors
All skin, without coloring, would appear creamy white. Near-surface blood vessels add a blush of red. A yellow pigment also tints the canvas. Lastly, sepia-toned melanin, created in response to ultraviolet rays, appears black in large amounts. These four hues mix in different proportions to create the skin colors of all the peoples of Earth.

Types of kisses

Want to discover some new ways to kiss your sweetie? Get some fun ideas from this guide to the different types of kisses. You're guaranteed to learn a new kissing style!

1. The French Kiss
Probably the most famous kiss there is, the French kiss is an open-mouthed kiss where one person's tongue touches the other person's tongue. Also called a "tongue kiss," the French kiss easy enough to execute, but it can take years to master. For French kissing tips, check out the following guides:

2. The Butterfly Kiss
To give someone a butterfly kiss, get close to them so the tips of your eyelashes are touching theirs. Then blink very fast so your eyelashes flutter together like butterfly wings. It's a fun, cute thing to do while you're catching your breath from more traditional kisses. You can also give someone a solo butterfly kiss by fluttering your eyelids against their cheek.

3. The Single-Lip Kiss
To give someone a single-lip kiss, take one of their lips between yours and gently suck or tug on it. It's an awfully romantic kiss, and if you do it right, you'll send tingles up and down your sweetie's spine.

4. The Spiderman Kiss
Based on the kiss in the 2002 movie Spider-Man, the Spiderman kiss involves kissing someone whose face is upside-down from yours, so your top lip kisses their bottom lip and vice versa.
5. The Earlobe Kiss
A great kiss to to perform while you're taking a break from lip kisses, the earlobe kiss involves taking someone's earlobe lightly between your lips and tugging gently downward. For a more intense earlobe kiss, add a little bit of tongue, or use a gentle sucking motion on their earlobe.

6. The Lip Gloss Kiss
This is a fun, flirty kiss for girlfriends to give their boyfriends. Put on a healthy amount of lip gloss or ChapStick, then rub your lips on your partners' lips until theirs are coated, too. For extra fun, surprise your partner with a sweet, fruity lip gloss flavor.

7. The Eskimo Kiss
In an Eskimo kiss, two people rub their noses back and forth against each other. It's based on real kisses that people in Eskimo cultures give their friends. Just like with lip kisses, Eskimo kisses are best executed with your eyes closed.

8. The Cheek Kiss
The cheek kiss is exactly what it sounds like - a closed-mouth kiss against someone's cheek. Cheek kisses can be used as friendly greetings, flirty thank-you's or cute, unexpected ways to say good-bye to your boyfriend or girlfriend.

9. The Hickey
A hickey technically isn't a kiss; it's a red mark (a bruise, really) left on the skin after someone sucks hard enough on it. Hickeys hurt a little to get, but some people think the sucking feels good, especially on the side of the neck. It can be embarrassing to walk around with a hickey, so before you start sucking, get permission first.
10. The Secret Message Kiss
In the middle of a French kiss, spell out a secret message with the tip of your tongue against their tongue. It might feel a little funny to the other person, but at least you'll be getting your message across.

11. The Vampire Kiss
The vampire kiss is a deep kiss on someone's neck that can involve sucking or light biting on the skin. Since some people find it painful rather than sexy, and since the sucking might leave a hickey, always ask permission before you give someone a vampire kiss.

12. The Wet Kiss
Wet kisses are any open-mouthed kisses, with or without tongue. A little bit of wetness during a kiss can be sexy, but try not to overdo it: too much saliva is sloppy. Alternate between wet kisses and closed-mouth kisses and single-lip kisses, and be sure to swallow occasionally so you don't accidentally drool all over your partner.

13. The Lizard Kiss
The lizard kiss involves flicking your tongue in and out of your partner's mouth in tight, quick strokes (picture the way a lizard moves its tongue). This is a silly kiss you can try just for fun, but it generally should be avoided because it feels kind of creepy to get.

14. The Air Kiss
The air kiss is a sophisticated gesture you can use as a greeting to your friends and relatives. To give one, rest your cheek against their cheek and make a kissing sound with your lips.

15. The Biting Kiss
The biting kiss is a more aggressive form of the French kiss. Like the French kiss, it's open-mouthed and incorporates tongue, but as you pull back, your teeth lightly grab onto your sweetie's tongue for just a second. Try it once and see how your partner responds. Some people love it, but others think it's painful or weird.

16. The Angel Kiss
To give someone an angel kiss, kiss them very gently on their eyelids or on the spot right next to their eye, using just your lips. It's a very romantic way to wake someone up or say goodbye.

17. The Neck Kiss
After French kissing for a while, some people mix it up by trailing their mouth down and "Frenching" the other person's neck. To execute a neck kiss perfectly, go light on the saliva, focus on the motion of your lips, never stay in once place for very long and never suck hard enough to leave a hickey.

18. The Jawline Kiss
To plant a jawline kiss on someone, give them a firm kiss on the bottom of their jaw, right where their face meets their neck. If they respond well to it, make a path of jawline kisses up to their ear and give them an earlobe kiss.

19. The Breath Kiss
The breath kiss is a fun, silly kiss that's almost more of a game than a kiss. To do it, open your mouth, inhale deeply and lock lips with your sweetie (like you're performing CPR). Slowly exhale into their mouth while they're inhaling, "passing" the breath to them. Without moving, slowly inhale while your partner exhales. Keep passing the breath back and forth until one of you runs out of breath or you both erupt in giggles.

20. The Love Kiss
Finally, the love kiss is any kiss that you give while thinking tender, loving thoughts about your partner. You might not realize it, but your kissing style can be influenced by whatever's on your mind. Smooching with love on your mind will make your kisses extra soft and sweet. Whether it's on your partner's mouth, neck, ear or forehead, the love kiss is the most romantic kiss you can give.

man in woman's view

Men are like... place mats. They only show up when there's food on the table.

Men are like... mascara. They usually run at the first sign of emotion.

Men are like... bike helmets. Handy in an emergency, but otherwise they just look silly.

Men are like... government bonds. They take so long to mature.

Men are like... parking spots. All the good ones are taken.

Men are like... copiers. You need them for reproduction, but that's about it.

Men are like... lava lamps. Fun to look at, but not all that bright.

Men are like... bank accounts. Without a lot of money, they don't generate much interest.

Men are like... high heels. They're easy to walk on once you get the hang of it.

Men are like... miniskirts. If you're not careful, they'll creep up your legs.

Think positive

Release all your negative thoughts and feelings.
Fill yourself with positive thoughts, feelings and behaviorsthat return to you through the generosity, love and
kindness of those with whom you interact.

When bad things happen to you,
do not view them as roadblocksbut as stepping stones which lead
you to a higher quality of life.
Confucius quote:"It does not matter how
slowly you go as long
as you do not stop."

Happiness is like a butterfly;
The more you chase it, the more it will elude you,
But if you turn your attention to other things,
it will come and sit softly on your shoulder.

Always remember to forget the things that made you sad.

But never forget to remember the things that made you glad.

Always remember to forget the friends that proved untrue.
But never forget to remember those that have stuck by you.

Always remember to forget the troubles that passed away.
But never forget to remember the blessings that come each day.

HEART OF WOMAN

Heart of a Woman

They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy
and laugh when they are nervous.

They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up against injustice.
They don't take "no" for an answer
when they believe there is a better solution.

They go without new shoes
so their children can have them.
They go to the doctor
with a frightened friend.

They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel
and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear
about a birth or a new marriage.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They have sorrow at the loss of a family member,
yet they are strong when they think
there is no strength left.

They know that a hug and a kiss
can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all sizes,
in all colors and shapes.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you
to show how much they care about you.

The heart of a woman is what makes the world spin!
Women do more than just give birth.
They bring joy and hope.
They give compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends.

Women have a lot to say and a lot to give.

I'll be there with a love that's strong
I'll be your strength I'll keep holding on

Let me fill your heart with joy and laughter
Togetherness is all I'm after
Whenever you need me

PRICE OF LOVE

~ The Price Of Love ~
She soared so high and free,
all pure and lovely as could be.
She knew no worry, stress or pain.
No one could imprison her by force or chain.
But as it must be, a conqueror came.
So handsome and bold, and lit the flame,
between these free spirited souls.
Their love was beautiful and all aglow.

In time their passionate thirst was quenched
and the flame of love was flickering low ...
In the cold darkness of reality it began to show
Their love had taken their freedom and turned them to foes.
When they could stand it no longer,
they both returned to find their lost freedom
and search for their identity they felt they had lost.
But each day that passed their need for each other grew stronger.
Now they're no longer unencumbered and free...
this is the price of love, you see.
Whether together or apart
the one you love has imprisoned your heart.

WHAT MAKES MARRAIGE CLICK

There are many reasons why a marriage fails. To keep it going smoothly, it’s essential that the couple follows some mandatory rules

It has been observed that many marriages go through different developmental stages and predictable crises. But because people are unfamiliar with the usual ups and downs of marriage, these predictable transitional periods are often misunderstood, causing over-reactions. Those who manage to ward off these stormy periods usually come out with greater love and respect for their spouses. When it comes to marriage – adjustment, co-operation and above all compromise, becomes an essential aspect.

Understanding the problem

Many couples do not realise that the difference between criticism and complain. Criticism involves attacking someone’s nature rather than their behaviour. Everyone has the right to crib and complain. Venting out what you feel is a healthy marital activity, and much healthier than suppressing your feelings. Criticism, on the other hand, entails blaming, making a personal attack or an accusation. Whereas complaints usually begin with the word ‘I’, criticisms begin with ‘you’. For example, “I expect a small gift from you sometimes,” is a complaint. “You never buy me anything and this is what I hate about you,” is a criticism. When couples criticise each other they attack each other’s self-esteem.
Lack of intimacy is one of those very common problems that shakes the very foundation of a marriage and upturns a loving and caring relationship. A considerable decline in physical affection is also counted as one of the most recognised symptoms of a failing or a bad relationship.

Stop giving the silent treatment

A common marriage problem is stonewalling and it appears when you simply stop responding, even defensively, to your partner's accusations. Most stonewallers (about 85 per cent) are men. Feeling overwhelmed by emotions and the problems, the marriage is facing, they start withdrawing. They try to avoid confrontations and arguments, keep their faces immobile, and avoid eye contact. They prefer turning their back and sleeping rather than solving the issue leaving their spouse fuming.

Getting rid of habits that irritate

These are some instances that can irritate your partner to a great extent. Leaving the toilet seat up and forgetting to flush, keeping the cell phone at odd places and not able to find it when needed have become some of the most common irritating habits that frequently provoke issues between couples. However, there are other irritating personal habits likely to cause problems including:

• Bad driving

• Not sharing household chores (Including not looking after children)

• Leaving a mess in any part of the house

• Not sharing the TV remote

• Personal hygiene

• Amount of time spent on personal interests rather than with partner

• Amount of time spent getting ready and even the choice of clothes

Avoid infidelity

Extramarital affairs can range from a having a one-night fling in a drunken state to a long-term, planned affair. Infidelity happens when feelings of depression, stress, or just being overwhelmed with the pressures of life take over. These can cause some people to neglect their physical appearance and hygiene. The other partner may not feel attracted to his/her spouse anymore. Another reason for looking outside the marriage is when couples become very demanding. A wife or husband may not realise that nagging and complaining is demanding. It puts a lot of pressure on a spouse to be a certain way for the other.

Recipe for a happy relationship

Communication is the key. That means talking through situations rather than bottling up or accusing each other. While couples communicate, they should avoid getting defensive, the pitch or the tone should be observed. Empathy is important in marriage. This means being able to put yourself in another’s position.

HARD TO READ WOMEM MIND

Experts agree, it’s hard to read a woman’s mind

Attached Image: women_minda.jpg
A new research now backs what men have said from time immemorial, women are difficult to read, and their ways mysterious.
Researchers at Indiana University showed video clips from 24 different speed dates and asked male and female participants two simple questions: “Do you think the man was interested in this woman?” and “Do you think the woman was interested in this man?” Their answers were then compared with the responses of the speed daters themselves, reports Live Science.
The results, published in the January issue of the journal Psychological Science, show that both men and women are able to gauge a man’s interest in a woman, but are equally baffled when it comes to figuring out if a woman is interested in a man.
In fact, a flip of a coin would be almost as accurate in predicting a woman’s romantic interest on a date.
Skyler Place, who headed the study, says that the biological drive behind dating — finding an optimal mate for gene promotion — gives women reason to be elusive.
“Being coy forces the men to spend more time interacting with the woman, because they are unsure if they have successfully courted her,” Place said. “Therefore, the woman has more time to gather information about her date.”
Ultimately, women have more at stake while dating because they face higher “sunk costs” — a woman can carry the child of only one man at a time, while a man can impregnate many women. Video clips taken from the middle and end of dates provided the most accurate assessments, Place said, suggesting that the daters’ true feelings became more evident as they collected information throughout their encounter.
The speed dates were conducted in Germany as part of Humboldt University’s Berlin Speed Dating Study. None of the Indiana University study participants understood German, and were using only visual cues and tone of voice to determine daters’ interest.
“From an evolutionary perspective, there is nothing wrong with a woman being ‘open’ and ‘honest’ about who she is — it is simply in her best interest not to present herself as actually interested immediately,” Place said.
There was, however, great variability in how well observers could predict the interest of any particular speed-dater, ranging from 90% accuracy down to 10%. In five of the videos, 80% of the observers thought the women shown were interested when in fact they were not — they were acting friendly even though they had no interest in the men. AGENCIES

GUY CHASING MISS

FROM simple to sexy, coy to bindaas, homely to professional — men have eternally been chasing the elusive Miss Perfect. Has the definition changed for the metrosexual man? Or do they still want their women to be a combination of intelligence, beauty and confidence? And, at the same time, someone they could take home to their family.
“On a brighter side, the avant-garde man is more practical and accommodating. But scratch the surface and you will find that the wish list remains the same. His head is full of the ‘perfect woman’ who massages his ego, looks good, is good to his family and tosses a salad for him when he’s back… someone who fits the tagline ‘neighbour’s envy, owner’s pride’!” says Tuhin A. Sinha, 31-year-old bachelor and author of 22 Yards.
But 22-year-old Bharat Kundra, winner of Mr Grasim 2007, a software engineer and theatre actor, wants his woman-to-be everything rolled into one, but on her own terms! “In today’s fast-paced world, relationships are instant, so are material and physical pleasures. What remains are values and a sense of spirituality. I’d definitely like my woman to be at par with me or maybe ahead, but she has to have a healthy mind, body and spirit,” says Kundra.

Is the alpha woman ready to take up the challenge? “I think it’s important in this time and age to move beyond genderspecific roles in par tner ships. There isn’t a problem per se with having high expectations of a partner, especially if it’s in the spirit of growth and evolvement. It’s like that movie with the line — ‘You make me want to be a better man/woman’. I think a positive relationship can do just that,” says Advaita Kala, author of Almost Single.
For television actor Aman Verma, his woman, even though it sounds clichéd, has to be one with a sense of humour. Wit is something that really turns him on. “She has to be able to laugh, with me, at herself, at me…”
Some like humour, while some a bold attitude. Polo champion Uday Kalaan is comfortable with his woman wearing the pants, both at home and outside. “It’s unfair to expect the world of her. She can’t be everything.” For actor Tusshar Kapoor “she has to have a personality — a mix of matured outlook and beauty.”

Attached Image: Tuhin_A_Sinha_and_Aman_Verma.jpg
Tuhin A Sinha and Aman Verma

The evolution is obvious in both the male as well as the female characters. If the modern man is changing nappies, then the woman is donning pants as well. For each alpha male, there’s an alpha female. This is what Andrew Go, director of Mills & Boon India, has to say: “Besides his broad shoulders and tall frame, the Mills & Boon hero has a sensitive side. He has to prove constantly to his woman that he’s worthy of her! He realises that women are more independent and empowered, hence he has to evolve too.” In short, he knows she won’t take things lying down.
So, who is Miss Perfect? When we asked around, ‘connect’ is the word that was top on the list. Most men look for a mental as well as a spiritual connect, a way to communicate. None of the guys wanted a trophy wife whom they couldn’t talk to. Career and a certain amount of values featured high on the list. It’s okay if she guzzles an occasional beer with her buddies, but her conduct and body language shouldn’t embarrass him. It’s okay if she swears, but she should respect people who matter to him. Slight jealousy is ‘sweet’ until she goes psycho!
Roll over, believers of hackneyed phrases like: “a tigress in b e d … ” , “way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”, the metrosexual man is jittery about his performance score card and as for cooking, they believe in takeaways! Take a chill pill, girls!

IN RAIN WE MAKE LOVE

In Rain We Make Love Together in Each Other's Embrace
Cold, quiet rain gently falling
Yet the dampness we don't feel;
For our bodies are absorbed in each other
Hot as the heat from hell.
I lead you slowly into the woods
Place a quilt on the ground;
The noise of nature is all around us
Yet the beating of our hearts is the only sound.
My kiss is gentle, yet demanding
Your body arches to feel
The touch of my hand, the feel of me
Without resistance you yield to me

I taste the essence of your body
You bring more pleasure to me, than I've ever known
You give yourself to you completely
The quietness is disturbed by our groans.
I rise above you with a sudden urgency
Our needs are great, we both have found;
Our hearts pounding with anticipation
We become one, lying there on the ground.
Rain has never been more beautiful
In rain we make love together in each other's embrace;
The taste of you, the feel of nature
A beautiful moment - in my memory forever encased.

TIPS FOR PUMPING PETROL

TIPS ON PUMPING PETROL

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold.Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the petrol, when it gets warmer petrol expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your litre is not exactly a litre. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the petrol, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role.

A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. You should be pumping on low mode, thereby minimizing the vapours that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapour return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapour. Those vapours are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is tofill up when your Petrol tank is HALF FULL. The reason for this is the more Petrol you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. petrol evaporates faster than you can imagine. petrol storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the Petrol and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every litre is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder,if there is a petrol truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy Petrol, DO NOTfill up; most likely the petrol is being stirred up as the Petrol is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

To have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Petrolbuyers. It's really simple to do.

I'm sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)...and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached overTHREE MILLION consumers !!!!!!!If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If It goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. How long would it take?

I miss your voice

which always spoke so softly in my ear

letting me know you cared about my day.

I miss your laughter

so quick and unbridled.

It warmed the center of my heart.

I miss your thoughts

that were freely shared

at the end of our day.

I miss your hugs

Always so warm. Where

I felt secure and safe

for awhile….

Your name comes to my mind bringing

Visions of yellow roses and white vases.

Long talks on the phone.

Walks hand in hand.

A friendship I thought would never end.

A love that I believed would never die.

Yet here I stand

Years later

When the healing is done

and yet

I miss you

PROBLEMS OF AGING

Problems of ageing

Attached Image: aging.jpg
Do you know how the body clock takes its toll on you? Read on to find out what happens to the body as you age

BRAIN

We start losing the brain cells in our 20s but it’s a slow process. About 40 per cent of the people above 65 years have some memory impairment – one per cent of them develop dementia every year. One’s personality stabilises by 30 and any sudden change after that may indicate a degenerative illness.

EYES

Difficulty in focusing on something that’s close starts in the 40s and by the 70s, it is harder to distinguish between the fine details.

EARS

Age-related hearing loss occurs in 25 per cent of the people between 65 to 75 years and in 70 to 80 per cent of those over the age of 75.

SENSES

The ability to taste and smell deteriorates with age and this can start as early as 60. Around 30 per cent of 70 to 80-year-olds experience problems with their senses.

SKIN

Ageing begins at 20 but signs are not visible for another 20 years.

HEART

The risk of a heart attack increases with age – especially over 45 for men and over 55 for women.

HEIGHT

By the time we reach the age of 80, we lose as much as two inches in height due to the curving forward of the spine or because of the compression of the discs between the vertebrae.

PROSTATE

Almost doubles in weight between the ages of 20 and 90. Men over 50 are at a much greater risk of developing prostate cancer.

LIVER

We lose around one-third of our body weight between the ages of 30 and 90.

SEXUAL PEAK

Women are best in bed at 35, while men are thought to peak at 18, when testosterone is highest. However, it must be noted that peak hormones doesn’t mean peak sexual performance. After all, the average age of men buying medicines for this is 41.

MUSCLES

Muscle loss begins around 30. Without regular exercise, muscle mass in women declines by 22 per cent between 30 and 70 years, and 23 per cent in men.

JOINTS

Normal movement puts pressure on our joints and, with the added stress created by sports activities, they usually start to wear out between the age of 40 and 50. This can then lead to osteoarthritis – severe joint pain – in the over 65s.

BONES

These begin to lose density at 50, exposing us to a higher risk of osteoporosis and fractures.

SPINE

At about 60, the number of cells in the spinal cord begin to drop, which leads to a decrease in sensation.

10 causes women refuse to

If a woman says NO to a man's invitation to have a cup of coffee together, he should not give up and all the same keep on making acquaintances with women. It is important for men to foresee refusals from women and try to evade them. Here are the ten popular reasons that make women turn down men's invitations and nullify their attempts to get acquainted.

Attached Image: womantease.jpg
1. Selfishness and hatred of men. The modern big city society, both men and women, are awfully anxious about their own lives only and do not care about other people's feelings. They believe their sexual attractiveness must be sold at the highest price. Women of the type love to humiliate men and make them feel ill at ease.

2. Man's looks betray he is short of cash. Women pay particular attention to men's financial status. So, those males who look like having not enough money stand a poor chance of getting YES to their invitation for a cup of coffee. Men should better seek acquaintance with women who look as well-to-do as they are.

3. She is not alone. A woman may turn down other men's invitations in case she already has a partner and wants no more acquaintances.

4. She is a sophisticated coquette. A great number of women with low self-appraisal and also married women belong to the category as it is important for them to know they are sexually attractive and to get confirmations of it. They may behave as if they would not mind to get acquainted with new men but in fact they do not at all plan to date them. These women just need to flatter their pride and feel their superiority.

5. She has some emotional problems (may be she is a hysterical girl?). This is a category of women who once dealt with mean men and who are absolutely sure that males are the cause of all troubles in the world. Such a woman will turn down your invitation just because you are a male and for no other reason. Read more articles about misunderstanding between men and women here

6. Man's first step in getting acquainted was wrong. Some women like strangers clap them on the back and say 'Hi, babe' while others treat the manner as brazen impudence and will try not to deal with you even if finds you attractive. So, men should mind woman's social status and education to choose a proper approach for getting acquainted with her. An approach suitable for a market seller will not work with a doctor or a teacher.

7. A bad moment for acquaintances. A woman may turn down man's invitations owing to circumstances beyond the man's control. Probably she has some serious problems at home or in the office, or she feels bad and realizes that she looks not very nice on this particular day. But for the troubles she would have probably said YES to your invitation.

8. She is probably still suffering from breaking up with her previous partner. If a woman invited for a date says she wants no dates and needs some time to look into herself it means she is still suffering as has recently broken up with her partner. She wants no new romances. In this case, first try to become friends with her and probably later the relations will become more romantic.

9. You are too diffident. Women will never agree to date men who look absolutely diffident and dumb when making attempts to get acquainted. The best thing a diffident man can expect in this situation is winning the status of a friend. Men must be confident but never rude or familiar when striking up acquaintances with women.

10. A woman just does not like you, that's all. And nothing can be done in this case. Tastes differ. Men should remember that the success of their attempts to get acquainted with women depends upon them in some case. This is first of all their own behavior. Do not give up if a woman says NO. You may be more successful when grow more experienced.

RIPPLE EFFECTS

Pondripples.jpgWhen you throw a stone into a pond, you’ll see a splash and hear a specific sound generated by the touch of stone with the water. You will notice circles rippling out from the point where stone hit the water. The stone touched the water only once however the number of waves was more than that. Did you also noticed that you did one simple act of throwing a stone but it resulted in several waves generation in all directions travelling to a large distance? This is what we call Ripple Effect.

If you closely observe your day to day life, you will notice that most of your acts are generating ripples in the society since a lot of people are getting affected either positively or negatively. If you are doing a positive act, the ripple effect is going to be positive. For example, if you help your friend or colleague, there is a most likely chance that he will help you and others when he finds you or others in any crisis. Hence I believe that positive acts result in positive ripples and negative effects generate negative ripples. Since this article is going to be read by all kind of intellectuals so I will summarize some basic example of positive and negative ripples. Article written by Junaid Tahir (mjunaidtahir at gmail dotcom)

1- When you share some inspiring article/video/story with your friends through email, Facebook, Google Plus, blog, website or any other online media, it will have a positive impact on hundreds of lives; Just to elaborate, if you have sent this article by email to 100 friends and only 20 of those share the same information with their colleagues/friends then this article will reach and inspire another 20*100 = 2000 people. This won’t stop here since these 2000 people are going to share that with another thousands of people so the article consequently touches millions!

2- When you work on some humanity service project (for example, giving some money for charity on monthly basis, opening an orphan house, installing water tanks in areas where water is not available to drink, visiting hospitals to help poor people etc) you are generating an unstoppable ripple effect. Hundreds of people will get inspired by you and start doing the same (more or less) acts.

3- When you want to show your driving ‘skills’ and ‘thrills’ by bad or speedy driving while your friends or family members are with you, you are encouraging them to do the same when they are given a chance. These friends will probably do the same and encourage more people for this bad act. Down the road in 6 month you might become the root cause of rash driving for 100+ people or more!

This paragraph is for Muslims only: If we closely think, the positive ripples can become a source of Sadqa Jaria which is extremely required after your death. If you have done something similar to Point-1 and Point-2, these deeds will keep sending you the Hasanat (currency of Aakhirah) in your after-death-bank-account. Always remember that dollars, pounds or euros wont help you on the day of Judgment, the thing which will help you is your acts of kindness and their usage by the society. If you inspire and convince more and more people for any good deed (by your words or by doing the task actually) you are basically ensuring your share in the Hasanat which they is going to do (while their share will not be impacted). Article written by Junaid Tahir. Feel free to give feedback at my blog. http://paradigmwisdom.blogspot.com/

Conclusion: Positive Acts of kindness can bring magical results on earth. Everyone need to understand the concept that all of his/her acts are generating ripples in the society which are either improving or polluting the society.

Do you audit yourself on how much pollution or prosperity you are contributing to the society?

The Truth About Natural Foods

The Truth About Natural Foods
How you define natural could mean that you're being exposed to an increasing number of toxic chemicals.

By Emily Main

When you grab a bottle of "all natural" cooking oil at the grocery store or a bag of "all natural" corn chips, you think you're getting an "all natural" product. But like any product advertised as "natural," that all depends on your definition of the word—and that of the people selling it to you.

Considering our corporate-controlled food supply, you might imagine there are many different opinions on what "natural" means, since the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn't regulate the term. This past December, California resident Julie Gengo brought a class-action lawsuit against Frito-Lay for advertising its Tostitos and Sun Chips as all natural, despite the fact that both are made with genetically modified corn. Her suit follows another, brought by the same New York City law firm, Milberg LLC, against food giant ConAgra for advertising its canola oil as natural, even though it, too, is made from a genetically modified crop.

Neither case has gone to trial, but both bring up one of the most contentious issues in the food movement today: labeling of genetically modified (GM) foods. Ingredients made from genetically modified crops, or GMOs, such as corn, soy, canola, and even cotton exist in approximately 70 percent of the processed foods on store shelves, including nearly all foods advertised as "natural". Public opinion polls conducted by Reuters, Consumers Union, ABC News, and the Washington Post all show that more than 90 percent of Americans want genetically modified foods to be labeled, something that is already required in 40 developing and developed nations. "It's even required in Russia and China, two countries not exactly known for progressive citizen action," says Gary Hirschberg, CEO of the organic dairy Stonyfield Farms and one of the founders of a new campaign to force the FDA to require labeling. "America, a country ruled by the people, has not provided this same right to know."

The Just Label It campaign was launched in the fall of last year with a petition, filed with the FDA in September, asking them to move forward with mandatory labeling laws. Since the campaign filed that petition, it has received more than 540,000 public comments, most of which are in favor of mandatory labeling. "That's more comments than in the history of any regulation at FDA," says Hirschberg.

The Risks of GM Foods

According to the latest statistics from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), 88 percent of corn and 94 percent of soybeans grown in America are genetically modified. In addition to corn and soy, biotech companies have successfully gained patents for genetically modified sugar beets to make sugar, and alfalfa (hay) to feed to livestock. Nearly all of these wind up on your dinner plate in the form of processed foods or in the meat and dairy products made from animals fed genetically modified grain.

"The contention the FDA uses when the issue of labeling has come up before is that these crops are not materially different from non-genetically modified versions of the same crops," Hirschberg says. "But they're clearly different." All you need to do is look at the definition of GMO biotech giant Monsanto uses on its own website: "Plants or animals that have had their genetic makeup altered to exhibit traits that are not naturally theirs. In general, genes are taken (copied) from one organism that shows a desired trait and transferred into the genetic code of another organism."

So what's the big deal about them? We have no idea, says Robyn O'Brien, a former financial analyst for the food industry-turned-food activist after one of her children had a severe allergic reaction that she believes was caused by genetically modified ingredients. "The biotech industry spouts a lot of claims that there is no evidence of harm," she says, which is partly true—because the studies have never been done. "What little science that has been conducted on GM foods has been industry funded," she adds.

But there is evidence that genetically modified crops are not as benign as biotech firms would like you to believe. The best-documented problem they pose to people is the potential for food allergies. When plants are crossbred with entirely new species, new proteins are introduced into the crop, and food allergies can develop if your immune system attacks those new proteins and treats them like foreign invaders. Similarly, in one high-profile case, a soybean was crossbred with a Brazil nut in the late '90s, but the project was abandoned after the scientists realized that the allergenic proteins in Brazil nuts were transferred to the new crop, which could have been potentially fatal for people with tree-nut allergies.

Food, Inc. director Robert Kenner produced this video in support of the Just Label It Campaign.

While most genetically modified crops are bred to withstand heavy dousings of pesticides, others are bred to create their own pesticides, and a recent study showed that those pesticides can survive in our digestive systems and even wind up in unborn babies. The research, published in the journal Reproductive Toxicology, detected Bt-toxin, a bacterium bred into corn and cotton that kills insects when they try to eat the crops, in 93 percent of pregnant women and in 80 percent of their babies. Though the scientists couldn't pinpoint the exact source, they suspected the Bt-toxins came from the corn and soy fed to animals, whose meat products the women were eating. "The FDA was told by the crops' patent owners that the toxin would be broken down by saliva and not show up in the human gut," Hirschberg adds, but they were wrong.

Without independent studies on genetically modified foods, the health effects, if any, may never be revealed, he adds. Complicating the issue, these crops are patented and researchers must get permission from the likes of Monsanto, Bayer, and Syngenta before they're allowed to test them. And those companies have a financial interest in keeping scientists quiet. "The science [on GMO safety] is going to be debated for a long time," Hirschberg says. "Similar to climate change, we may not know for decades what the real impacts are. But people deserve and need the right to know whether they want to participate in this system or not."

The Real Danger of "Agent Orange Corn"

Perhaps the most severe, and well-studied, risk of genetic modification is that posed by the pesticides these crops are designed to withstand. Monsanto, the world's largest seed company, designs nearly all its genetically modified seeds to withstand Roundup, a pesticide so heavily used, researchers recently detected it in rain. Because it's so heavily used, workers and those living in agricultural areas are constantly exposed to low levels that can interfere with hormones and, in this way, lead to endocrine disorders such as obesity, diabetes, infertility and heart problems.

Its heavy overuse has also led to an explosion of pesticide-resistant weeds, which now cover 13 million acres, up from just 2.4 million a few years ago. Not only that, but bugs are becoming resistant to it. Farmers in the Midwest now have to contend with rootworms that are developing resistance to the Bt toxin bacterium.
Read More: What Biotech Pesticides Are Doing To Your Body

What's the biotech industry doing to combat this? Encouraging more resistance and use of more potent pesticides, of course! Monsanto just petitioned the USDA for permission to sell a corn resistant to 2,4-D and dicamba, two pesticides that have been found to increase the risk of spontaneous abortions by 50 percent. 2,4-D is one of the chemicals used in the toxic defoliant Agent Orange during the Vietnam War, and dicamba was sprayed alongside it. Both chemicals have the potential for being contaminated with dioxin, which was responsible for the severe birth defects seen in the children of Vietnam veterans and Vietnamese citizens. "The science is absolutely clear on the problems of 2,4-D and dicamba," says Hirschberg.

And that's why Hirschberg continues to push for GMO labeling. "If the average American understood this is where we're headed, they would feel as we do," he says. "We can't stop these technologies from being developed, but consumers have right to know whether they are participating in it."

What Can You Do?

• Demand labeling for genetically modified foods. Send a message to the FDA at justlabelit.org. The agency will be accepting comments on the Just Label It petition until February 18.

• Support organic farming. The problem with "natural" labeling is that people choose it over organic, so they can buy a cheaper product but still feel good about their purchase, Hirschberg says. But buying certified organic is the only surefire way to avoid genetically modified foods; unregulated labels like "natural," "antibiotic free," and "hormone free" may sound appealing, but none of them means the foods don't contain genetically modified ingredients, or that it didn't come from an animal that ate genetically modified corn or soy.

A doctor entered the hospital in hurry after being called in for an urgent surgery. He answered the call asap, changed his clothes & went directly to the surgery block. He found the boy's father pacing in the hall waiting for the doctor. On seeing him, the dad yelled:
"Why did U take all this time to come? Don't U know that my son's life is in danger? Don't U have any sense of responsibility?"

Th...e doctor smiled & said:
"I am sorry, I wasn't in the hospital & I came as fast as I could after receiving the call...... And now, I wish you'd calm down so that I can do my work"

"Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would U calm down? If your own son dies now what will U do??" said the father angrily

The doctor smiled again & replied: "I will say what Job said in the Holy Book "From dust we came & to dust we return, blessed be the name of God". Doctors cannot prolong lives. Go & intercede for your son, we will do our best by God's grace"

"Giving advises when we're not concerned is so easy" Murmured the father.

The surgery took some hours after which the doctor went out happy,
"Thank goodness!, your son is saved!" And without waiting for the father's reply he carried on his way running. "If U have any question, ask the nurse!!"

"Why is he so arrogant? He couldn't wait some minutes so that I ask about my son's state" Commented the father when seeing the nurse minutes after the doctor left.

The nurse answered, tears coming down her face: "His son died yesterday in a road accident, he was in the burial when we called him for your son's surgery. And now that he saved your son's life, he left running to finish his son's burial."

Moral-Never judge anyone..... because U never know how their life is & what they're going through"

BELIEVE IT OR NOT!!!

BELIEVE IT OR NOT!!!

Read this true Incident & let everybody you know this. My friend lives in Delhi , One day he went to Gurgaon to visit his uncle for some days. One evening he and some other of my college friends for a movie & had so much fun that he forgot that it was Very late. He was returning around midnight. He had to walk about a mile from where his friend dropped him. As he was walking alone, he could sense that the night felt very creepy as it was so dark. While walking, he was astonished to see an old creepy looking guy selling some books. It was a very unusual thing to see a thing like that at late night. It got the shivers on him when he noticed that his old guy is unusually pale and staring at him.

The old guy said "Son why don't you get a book, it would keep you company".

Then he did something which he would regret for the rest of his Life. My friend started to act brave & thought why not & had a look at his Collection. He noticed that all the books were related to supernatural Activities, but he found one that was very interesting.

So he asked the Old man "how much is it?".

The old guy replied, "Well son, this is an interesting book, it's only for Rs. 250.

My friend was shocked and said "but...but it's expensive"

This time the old man stared which freaked him. My friend quickly checked all his pockets & found Rs.200 & said "This is all I have."

The old guy replied "its OK son, you can have the book for that price

As My friend was just about to run for home the old man called back & said "Son, whatever happen, you don't ever flip the book to it's last page. Remember these words or you would regret it.

My friend nodded and never looked back.

On reaching home, he quickly asked his Uncle whether there was any new old book seller nearby.

The Uncle replied "not that I know of but, we've heard that there's 1 old man comes once in a while during full moon nights but heard That there is something creepy about it, why son?"

My friend freaked out, he told his uncle "nothing uncle, just asking".

He started reading the book with the old man's words on His mind. At night, 2 o'clock, as he went to bed, a gush of wind blew which chilled him up to his bones. At that glimpse, he noticed the wind had blown the pages to its last page. He remembered what the old man has said!

But we humans tend to have the tendency to know.

Out of curiosity, he flipped to the last page & fainted. What he saw at the last page is stated below.

men crave sex more than women

Even in old age, men crave sex more than women : Research

Attached Image: oldage_sex.jpg

London: It seems the old cliche may be true. Men are more likely than women to be interested in sex, have sex and enjoy sex, according to new scientific research, which also found people who stay active and healthy enjoy longer sex lives.

Research by University of Chicago academics published online on Wednesday in the British Medical Journal found that, across all age groups, men were more interested in sex than women — and the gap increased with age.

The difference was most pronounced in the 75-to-85 age group, where 39% of men and 17% of women said they were sexually active, although the gender difference was smaller among people with a partner. Women of that age are more likely than men to be widowed.

A total of 71% of men who were sexually active above age 75 reported a good sex life, compared with 51% of women, while 41% of men said they were interested in sex, compared to 11% of women.
“Overall, men were more likely than women to be sexually active, report a good quality sex life, and be interested in sex,” the researchers found.

The researchers found the average person’s sex life winds down by the age of 70. It said that by age 55, men can hope for another 15 years while women generally have another 11 years of sexual activity.
But 55-year-old men in very good or excellent health gained five to seven years of sexually active life on average, compared with their peers in poor or fair health.

Women in very good or excellent health gained about three to six years compared with women in poor or fair health. The research adds to a pile of scientific evidence suggesting good sex can improve health and well-being — and vice versa.

The researchers found that, overall, people in very good or excellent health were 1.5 to 1.8 times more likely to report an interest in sex than those in poorer health. AP

IT'S ALWAYS a woman who pulls another woman down. Why haven't we learnt our lessons? Why do women let jealousy get in the way of friendship? Believe it or not, Keira Knightley is jealous of other women's legs. Paris Hilton believes that Nicole Richie is 'jealous' of her and that's the reason for their sour relationship. So heartbroken, Paris even wrote a song 'Jealousy' for her ex-girlfriend:
I was always happy, When I was watching you become a star, But you were only happy, When the world was openin' up my scars…
Fact is, we need to create a new 'calm power' at our workplace, where women change the social landscape from one of competition to cooperation.
'We don't need to pull other women down'

SONALIKA SAHAY, model
"It is true, women are generally interested in knowing what other female friends are doing. But I guess it's in their nature, they can't help it. It brings women some kind of joy to see another woman's downfall. But those are only 'socalled' friends not the real ones. I guess there's need for 21st-century girl power not one-upmanship, we don't need to pull other women down. We should concentrate positive energies on ourselves rather than getting jealous. It's better to see how far you can go ahead in life rather than waiting for your friends to fall badly. Things won't change overnight but gradually."
'Vanity, thy name is woman'

SHIBANI KASHYAP, singer
"When I was in school and I used to participate in competitions, I realised that my own dear girlfriends are competing with me; they wanted to win at any cost. They were not my true friends, they were my competitors. Now, in the music industry, I get negative vibes from other female singers, who are not happy to see me climb the ladder of success. If you are very good looking, your friends get jealous. But I believe that it's all in the mind, if you are mature and sensible enough then you won't ever let something as small as jealousy harm your relationship."
'Never mix your business and friendship'

ROSHNI CHOPRA, TV actor
"Jealousy is very normal especially in the working environment. The one thing that I've learnt in my professional life is that you should never mix business and friendship. You won't be able to find true friends in the place where you are working. Particularly with female friends, they can get jealous of anything and everything, so it's much better to have just cordial relationship and nothing more. Possessiveness to what you have achieved and insecurities result in jealousy. The worst can be a friend of yours 'hitting on your husband', that's the end of friendship for me. Women can't stop competing with other women, that's the rule of the game and it goes on and on."
'Jealousy is normal, just another human trait'

TINA CHATWAL, model
"In this competitive world, jealousy is normal, it is just another human trait. I think if jealousy is equal from both sides, then the relationship will soon die. But why should jealousy take over your relationship. Take for example, in my industry, each model should let her talent and work
speak for her. Women should create their own identity rather than indulging in cat fights, that's so immature! There's so much to do in life than thinking bad about others. Women should rise above all this nonsense."
'Jealousy is part of the game'

SOPHIE, VJ
"Wherever there's competition -- be it based on work, looks, lifestyle, money or anything, jealousy creeps in. What I've gathered from my experience all these years is, that you can't find loyal girlfriends in your workplace. You won't ever be able to give 100% in a friendship; you will always be cautious and insecure. In this glamour industry, people are always trying to pull me down. I believe, your hard work and dedication will make you come out as a winner. Women get jealous very easily; even your decent lifestyle can get on their nerves very quickly. Accept it; jealousy is part of the game."

Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein Did Not Fail at Mathematics in School

Today I found out Albert Einstein did not fail at mathematics in school.

In fact, he actually excelled at mathematics throughout his schooling and even considered becoming a mathematician for a time. This rumor actually started while he was still alive and even showed up in a particular issue of Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. Einstein was shown the article in Ripley’s, which had the title “Greatest living mathematician failed in mathematics.” Beyond the fact that this failure never happened, the other incorrect bit in that article was that Einstein was not a mathematician. Einstein reportedly found the article humorous and remarked: ““I never failed in mathematics… Before I was fifteen I had mastered differential and integral calculus.” (15 was the age in Germany that most qualified students would start to learn calculus.)

Indeed, by the age of 12, Einstein took it upon himself to see if he could learn geometry and algebra on his own. His parents subsequently bought him textbooks towards this end and, in one summer, he mastered both subjects, while coming up with his own proofs to prove the various mathematical theories he was studying, including his own way to prove the Pythagorean Theorem. Also at the age of 12, he began learning calculus, which, as noted, was about three years ahead of his classmates that would eventually qualify to pursue calculus.

How the myth came about that Einstein was poor at mathematics at an early age isn’t entirely known. A few theories have been thrown about. One story, who knows if it is true, is that in 1896 (the last year he attended this particular school), the school he was attending reversed their grading scale so that “6″ became the highest mark, instead of the lowest, and “1″ became the lowest, instead of the highest. So it would have looked like he had suddenly gone from passing to failing in his final year, when comparing with his marks from previous years.

Another potential origin story is that it was simply a case of him frequently needing to solicit the aid of mathematicians to double check is work, as well as to help him formalize his theoretical ideas into the language of mathematics. This, however, had nothing to do with being poor at mathematics; he simply wasn’t a mathematician and was often dealing with very advanced topics in mathematics that only mathematicians were generally proficient at. Even in these cases though, he typically picked up what he needed to know very quickly from the mathematicians who helped him.

Bonus Factoids:

Yet another myth surrounding Einstein is that he was the instigator of the theory that we only use 10% of our brains, something that has since been thoroughly debunked (both by the fact that he never said that and that we actually use all of our brains.)
While Einstein excelled at mathematics, he was very poor at language, particularly early on in his life (this also carried on to a lesser degree later in his life as well, including being initially rejected at the Federal Polytechnic Academy due to poor marks in non-science related subjects). By his own account, he didn’t start speaking until he was four years old. This, however, may have significantly aided in him developing the habit of thinking in images, rather than words, similar to how many deaf people think. This habit of thinking in images is largely how he first thought up the idea of special and general relativity using “thought experiments”, called Gedankenexperiment. Indeed, his first idea that there was something wrong with Maxwell’s equations came when he was sixteen and performed a thought experiment imagining what would happen if you were traveling at the speed of light and observed light traveling alongside you. The light, from this perspective, would then seem stationary to you, but Maxwell’s equations didn’t allow for this. He subsequently wrote an essay on this, at sixteen, and began formulating a new theory based on this thought experiment, which eventually resulted in his paper on special relativity.
When Einstein graduated from college, he failed to find work in academia as well as failed to be accepted into any doctoral program. Instead, he accepted a job as a third class patent clerk in a Swiss patent office. In his spare time, with the help of his wife, Mileva Mari, to double check his work (she was a physicist and slightly more advanced than he in mathematics), he wrote four papers that changed the landscape of Physics: proving that light acts as both particles and waves, not just waves; proving the existence of atoms and molecules; illustrating his theory of special relativity; and outlining the relationship between matter and energy.
Einstein eventually got his wife to agree to divorce him by offering her the money he would receive when he eventually would win a Nobel Prize for one or more of his papers he wrote in 1905 (no lack of confidence there) :-) . Apparently, she must have thought he had a good shot at it too someday, because, after thinking it over for a week, she accepted. She ended up having to wait until 1921, but eventually got the money.
Another popular myth is that Einstein received a Nobel Prize for his theory of special relativity. In fact, he actually received it for “the discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect”. At the time, Einstein was immensely popular with the public and there was a big push for him to win a Nobel Prize for his work. However, there was quite a bit of controversy surrounding his work in special relativity, so the committee did not want to award him a Nobel Prize for that. Carl Wilhelm Oseen eventually suggested that they could award him a Nobel Prize for discovering a new law of Physics, thereby getting around the problem of special relativity potentially not being correct, while pleasing the masses that were pushing hard for him to win a Nobel Prize. Einstein never won another Nobel Prize, despite special and general relativity revolutionizing theoretical physics.
Unlike many scientists, Einstein was a believer in God. However, not necessarily the God of any particular religion. He described his belief as such: “A spirit is manifest in the laws of the Universe – a spirit vastly superior to that of man, and one in the face of which we with our modest powers must feel humble. In this way, the pursuit of science leads to a religious feeling of a special sort.” … “We are in the position of a little child entering a huge library filled with books in many languages. The child knows someone must have written those books. It does not know how. It does not understand the languages in which they are written. The child dimly suspects a mysterious order in the arrangement of the books but doesn’t know what it is. That, it seems to me, is the attitude of even the most intelligent human being toward God. We see the universe marvelously arranged and obeying certain laws but only dimly understand these laws.”
Another myth surrounding Einstein is that he had an affair with Marilyn Monroe. In fact, he never even met her. Many proponents of this myth claim that Monroe suggested they have a baby together, making the perfect child, having her looks and his brain. He supposedly retorted, “But what if it has my looks and your brain?” This, of course, never happened and this anecdote is also commonly assigned to other actresses and intellectuals, including Isadora Duncan and George Bernard Shaw.

What Causes Strokes

An intracerebral bleed

Today I found out what causes a stroke.

A stroke, known in the medical field as a cerebral vascular accident (CVA) or brain attack, is more or less a “heart attack” for the brain. Like any organ in the body, the brain needs blood to supply it with oxygen and nutrients. Should this blood flow become blocked by a clot or emboli, or the rupture of a blood vessel, the cells that occupy that area of the brain begin to die. Although every person has a different presentation, some of the most common symptoms of a stroke include trouble speaking, slurred speech, weakness or paralysis of one or both sides of the body, altered mental status, vision problems, or headache.

There are two types of strokes: Ischemic and Hemorrhagic. Ischemic strokes are the most common type, accounting for nearly 80% of all strokes. This type of stroke is caused by a blockage of an artery that leads to the brain, or smaller specific area of the brain. “Ischemia” simply means a deficiency of blood supply produced by vaso-constriction or local obstacles to the arterial flow, thus, the term “Ischemic stroke”. Blood-clots are the leading cause of these blockages; however, anything that can block the blood vessel like an air bubble, a tumor, constriction of the blood vessel, or (rarely) a foreign object, can result in an Ischemic stroke.

Treatment for ischemic strokes involves removing or reducing the blockage. If this is not done quick enough and the cells in that area of the brain die, the only option left is physical therapy to try and increase the function of the body area affected. If doctors have the opportunity to treat the stroke in a timely manner, there are two therapies they can try. The first is to use thrombolitics (clot dissolving drugs) like Activase (Alteplase). Using a protein called “tissue plasminogen activator” (tPA) this type of drug breaks down clots allowing blood to begin flowing again.

Using this drug has its own problems. The first is that they require administration within 3 hours of the onset of symptoms. Although some studies have suggested that doctors can give the drug, under certain circumstances, within 6 hours. The second complication is that this drug will break down all the clots in your body, not just the ones in your brain. So as you would expect, the chance of unwanted bleeding is very good.

The second treatment attempts to get around the unwanted bleeding problem. It uses a type of interventional radiology (basically an image guided surgery) called Local Intra-Arterial Thrombolysis. This is basically taking a tPA and, using a wire guided delivery system, putting the drug directly on the unwanted clot. This treatment also comes with a short window of effectiveness and is best used within 4 hours of the onset of symptoms.

Hemmorhagic strokes account for the other 20% of strokes. This type also results in blood flow to an area of the brain to be interrupted. Instead of the artery being blocked, though, it bursts open and the blood leaks out and does not get transported to the cells of the brain.

Hemorhagic strokes come in two varieties: intracerebral and subarachnoid. Intracerebral simply means that an artery within the brain itself ruptures. Not only do the cells downstream of the break begin to die, but blood gets introduced into the brain and causes the area around the bleed to compress the brain tissue resulting in further damage. Subarachnoid hemorhage is also a rupture of an artery within the skull. The difference is where the bleed occurs. Instead of happening within the brain itself, it happens in the area surrounding it. The skull does not allow for the blood to escape so it puts pressure on the brain causing damage.

Doctors have two choices when it comes to treating a hemorrhagic stroke: fix it with surgery, or let it resolve on its own. In an effort to keep this article less than the short lifetime a neurosurgeon goes to school, I will not go in to all the factors that lead a doctor to decide between surgery or the “wait and see” approach. I will simply say that if surgery can be avoided, it will be. If it can’t, then hope your surgeon has steady hands or is using remote hands via a robotic aid device. No one wants shaky shakerson going at their brain with a scalpel!

Bonus Factoids:

Medical documentation of strokes can be traced all the way back to Hippocrates. He referred to the problem as “apoplexy”, meaning “struck down by violence”. It was thought he chose this term because the victims would often suddenly become paralyzed on one side of the body or have a sudden change in their mental status. For centuries it wasn’t known what the cause of apoplexy was. Not until the 17th century was it known that an apoplexy could be caused by either a brain bleed or a blockage of the arteries supplying the brain. The classification of the two different types wasn’t categorized until 1928.
In the United States, strokes are the third leading cause of death at approximately 140,000 per year. 795,000 people will have a stroke each year, approximately one every 40 seconds. World-wide approximately 15 million people have a stroke annually. Five million of them die and another five million are permanently disabled.
After the age of 55, the risk of having a stroke doubles every 10 years.
Smoking doubles your chance of having a stroke. A heart condition known as atrial fibrillation increases your chance 500%.
High blood pressure is the most important risk factor. It is thought that it contributes to 12.7 million strokes per year world wide.
A “transient ischemic attack” (TIA), also known as a mini-stroke, is when blood flow to the brain is interrupted for only a brief time period. The victim will have stroke-like symptoms that usually resolve within 24 hours. This affliction is usually a warning sign that a stroke will happen in the near future.
A study done by the American Heart Association showed that if you are a woman and had heart disease, you were more likely to have a mother who had a stroke, then a father who did. The point being that there could be a gender link between the heritability of vascular disease.
The Strokes are a band from New York, led by singer Julian Casablancas and guitarist Albert Hammond. They seem to be more popular in Britain then the United States. After hearing one of their songs, I believe it is similar to the way David Hasselhoff was big in Europe.

The 20 Most Life-Altering Concepts I’ve Ever Embraced

Do you have one life lesson or philosophy that has changed the course of your life?
Sometimes you can read something or have a life experience that hits you over the head with its brilliance and perfection. A huge mind shift takes place, and your life is forever altered for the better.
These can be years in the making or overnight sensations. I’ve had my share of both, and even the overnight sensations can take years to fully assimilate in my psyche.
But the important thing is the discovery of these concepts and how you apply them to your life. Once you realize these great truths are out there, it becomes a lifelong quest to discover more of them.
That’s what personal development is all about — the ongoing search for the truths that will set us free to be who we are and to live our best possible lives.
Through my adult years, there have been many of these concepts that I’ve discovered (or that have hit me over the head) along the way. I’ve chosen 20 to share with you that have impacted me most profoundly. And I’ve suggested a resource for further reading on the topic.
1. The Power of the Present Moment
It has taken me a long time to fully grasp this one, but the power of now is probably the most life-changing concept I’ve embraced. Our entire lives are comprised of present moments, so what we do in each moment and how we choose to view our current circumstances is what determines our happiness. Don’t fritter them away — make each moment count.
Resource: The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment0, by Eckhart Tolle
2. Don’t Struggle with Reality
What is happening is supposed to happen because it is happening. That sounds simple, but most of us resist our circumstances and argue with reality. As teacher and author Byron Katie reminds, “If you want reality to be different than what it is, you might as well try to teach a cat to bark.” When we stop opposing reality, and accept exactly what is, it frees us for creative thought and action based on truth.
Resource: Loving What Is: Four Questions That Can Change Your Life0, by Byron Katie
3. Let the Future Unfold
This is a hard one for those of us who are planners and goal-setters. You can still plan and set goals, but hold on to them loosely. Steer your boat in the direction of your dreams, but then let the current and wind carry you forward. Don’t worry or fret about what’s around the next bend. The future has a way of taking care of itself.
Resource: Release the Future (Marianne Williamson L.A. Lecture Series)0
4. Simplify Everything
I spent half of my adult life making things busier and more complicated — only to realize that busyness, things, and complications were sucking the joy out of living. When you do and have few things, you have more time to savor them fully and focus on what affords you the most pleasure and fulfillment.
Resource: Simplify Your Life: 100 Ways to Slow Down and Enjoy the Things That Really Matter0, by Ellen St. James
5. Let Go of Attachments
This goes along with simplifying. And the act of simplifying certainly helps you recognize your attachments. You’ll see what I mean when you start to give away a perfectly good suit that you haven’t worn in ten years. Suddenly that suit looks really necessary. But once you do let go, you never look back. And suddenly you are lighter and freer than ever before.
Resource: The Joy of Less, A Minimalist Living Guide: How to Declutter, Organize, and Simplify Your Life,0by Francine Jay
6. Don’t Believe Your Thoughts
This one was so liberating for me. For the longest time, I believed my thoughts were the definitive truth about reality. If I thought it, it must be the way it is. Now I realize that often my thoughts are completely wrong or just one perspective on truth. It is always good to find evidence to support the opposite of your thoughts, especially negative and limiting thoughts.
Resource: Don’t Believe Everything You Think: The 6 Basic Mistakes We Make in Thinking0, by Thomas Kida
7. You Can Train Your Brain
The science of neuroplasticity has changed everything about the way I view my capacity for learning and adapting to new things. Our brains are not rigidly mapped as scientists once assumed. Our brains are capable of rewiring to accommodate new learning and reinforce new behaviors well into old age. Even visualizing alone can strengthen areas in our physical and mental lives.
Resource: The Brain That Changes Itself: Stories of Personal Triumph from the Frontiers of Brain Science, by Norman Doidge, M.D.
8. Focus on the Task at Hand
This is the most practical and productive concept I’ve embraced. I’ve heard it for years, but my friend Leo Babauta of Zen Habits made it real for me. He showed me how to clear everything off my desk, pick one important thing, and give that one thing the time and attention it deserved for a fixed amount of time. Now I’m not distracted and pulled in other directions.
Resource: Focus: A simplicity manifesto in the Age of Distraction0, by Leo Babauta
9. Don’t Overthink
Historically I’ve had a tendency to let my mind whir off on over-thinking tangents. I believed I could think my way out of a problem or into a great decision. Some amount of thinking might be required for these situations, but at some point you get stuck like a gerbil on a wheel. I’ve discovered some brain tricks to help me get off that wheel and break free of over-thinking.
Resource: Women Who Think Too Much: How to Break Free of Overthinking and Reclaim Your Life0, by Susan Nolen-Hoeksema
10. Find Your Passion
I went for years thinking I didn’t have a passion. Finally, at age 48, I did the work necessary to learn what makes me really happy and how to apply it to my life and work. This work is often ignored or put off, but it is the only way to learn how to create your life by design rather than by reaction.
Resource: Discover Your Passion: A Step-by-Step Course for Creating the Life of Your Dreams, By Barrie Davenport
11. Live Through Your Values
Your core values should be the blueprint for everything else in your life. Until I did the self-work mentioned above, I didn’t give my values a lot of thought. But if your life is aligned with your values, then you have a purpose and guide for every decision and action.
Resource: What Matters Most : The Power of Living Your Values0, by Hyrum W. Smith
12. Stop Pleasing People
If your life is defined by pleasing others, winning their approval, or keeping them from disappointment, you are living a false life. You can’t be authentic and live this way. This impossible goal only reinforces low self-esteem and unhappiness. Once liberated from the pleasing addiction, you are free to be yourself and love yourself.
Resource: The Disease To Please: Curing the People-Pleasing Syndrome0, by Harriet B. Braiker
13. Whine Less, Give More
The more I talk about my problems and focus on them, the worse they seem — and the worse I feel. I’ve discovered when I feel bad about my life, I go do something for someone else. Then I feel better. It’s amazing how that works — but only every time.
Resource: The Power of Serving Others: You Can Start Where You Are0, by Gary Morsch
14. It’s Never Too Late
Using age as an excuse just doesn’t hold water. We can do most anything we want to well into old age. Why not live every single day learning, growing, and having bold adventures?
Resource: Age Doesn’t Matter Unless You’re a Cheese0, by Kathryn and Ross Petras
15. Focus on Your Top 20%
Rather than trying to do it all, pick what is most important and spend your time and energy on those things. This all ties in with simplifying and focusing on the task at hand, but it’s the bigger picture. Look at all areas of your life, and decide the top 20%. Let everything else fall away.
Resource: The 80/20 Principle: The Secret to Achieving More with Less0, by Richard Koch
16. Happiness Is (Partly) a Choice
Our genes and circumstances account for half of our happiness levels, but the other half is totally in our control. That allows for a big heap of happiness if we choose it. I learned so much about what can foster happiness from this resource book.
Resource: The How of Happiness: A New Approach to Getting the Life You Want0, by Sonja Lyubomirsky
17. There’s Nothing to Fear
Unless we are in imminent danger, most fears are projections about a perceived future. By staying the present moment (see #1), you will see there is nothing to fear. Right now, everything is just fine.
Resource: Fearless: Creating the Courage to Change the Things You Can0, by Steve Chandler
18. Create vs. React
Most of us spend our lives in reaction mode. Life throws things at us, and we respond accordingly. But you can flip that around and take control. Once you do that passion and value work mentioned above, you have the tools to create an extraordinary life by your design.
Resource: Shift your Mind: Shift the World0, by Steve Chandler
19. Action is the Answer
When you don’t know what to do, just do something. When you feel afraid, do something. When you don’t want to start, do something. Any action, tiny action, will give you momentum. And that gets the ball rolling forward.
Resource: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People0, Stephen Covey
20. Stay Open to Possibilities
I love author Shakti Gawain’s quote, “This or something better now manifests for me in totally satisfying and harmonious ways, for the highest good of all concerned.” When you aren’t too attached to outcomes and remain open, you might get something better than you bargained for!
