Remember the following as you go through life:
1. Do not bear grudge towards those who are not good to you. No one has the responsibility of treating you well, except your mother and I.
To those who are good to you, you have to treasure it and be thankful, and ALSO you have to be cautious, because, everyone has a motive for every move. When a person is good to you, it does not mean he really likes you. You have to be careful, don't hastily regard him as a real friend.
2. No one is indispensable, nothing in the world that you must
possess. Once you understand this idea, it would be easier for you to go through life when people around you don't want you anymore, or when you lose what/who you love most.
3.Life is short. When you waste your life today, tomorrow you would find that life is leaving you. The earlier you treasure your life, the better you enjoy life.
4.Love is but a transient feeling, and this feeling would fade with time and with one's mood. If your so called loved one leaves you, be patient, time will wash away your aches and sadness. Don't over exaggerate the beauty and sweetness of love, and don't over exaggerate the sadness of falling out of love.
5.A lot of successful people did not receive a good education, that does not mean that you can be successful by not studying hard! Whatever knowledge you gain is your weapon in life. One can go from rags to riches, but one has to start from some rags!
6.I do not expect you to financially support me when I am old, neither would I financially support your whole life. My responsibility as a supporter ends when you are grown up. After that, you decide whether you want to travel in a public transport or in your limousine, whether rich or poor.
7.You honor your words, but don't expect others to be so. You can be good to people, but don't expect people to be good to you. If you don't understand this, you would end up with unnecessary troubles.
8. I have bought lotteries for umpteen years, but I never strike any prize. That shows if you want to be rich, you have to work hard! There is no free lunch!
9. No matter how much time I have with you, let's treasure the time we have together. We do not know if we would meet again in our next life.

EFFECTS OF CRYING
We take a look at the psychology of crying
A good cry can often make us feel better and help us put things in perspective. Now, a new study has revealed that the benefits of crying depend entirely on the what, where and when of a particular ‘crying episode’. The University of South Florida psychologists Jonathan Rottenberg and Lauren M Bylsma, along with their colleague Ad JJM Vingerhoets of Tilburg University analysed the detailed accounts of more than 3000 recent crying experiences (which occurred outside of the laboratory).
The researchers found that the majority of respondents reported improvements in their mood following a bout of crying. However, one third of the survey participants reported no improvement in mood and a tenth felt worse after crying. The survey also revealed that criers who received social support during their crying episode were the most likely to report improvements in mood.
Studies till date have not always produced a clear picture of the benefits of crying, in part because the results often seem to depend on how crying is studied. The researchers note several challenges in accurately studying crying behaviour in a laboratory setting.
Volunteers who cry in a laboratory setting often do not describe their experiences as being cathartic or making them feel better. Rather, crying in a laboratory setting often results in the study participants feeling worse; this may be due to the stressful conditions of the study itself, such as being videotaped or watched by research assistants. This may produce negative emotions (such as embarrassment), which neutralise the positive benefits usually associated with crying.
However, these laboratory studies have provided interesting findings about the physical effects of crying. Criers do show calming effects such as slower breathing, but they also experience a lot of unpleasant stress and arousal, including increased heart rate and sweating.
What is interesting is that bodily calming usually lasts longer than the unpleasant arousal. The calming effects may occur later and overcome the stress reaction, which would account for why people tend to remember mostly the pleasant side of crying.
Research has shown that the effects of crying also depend on who is shedding the tears. For example, individuals with anxiety or mood disorders are least likely to experience the positive effects of crying. Also, the researchers found that people who lack insight into their emotional lives (a condition known as alexithymia) actually feel worse after crying. The authors suggest that for these individuals, their lack of emotional insight may prevent the kind of cognitive change required for a sad experience to be transformed into something positive. ANI

DECISION MAKINGS
How to make decisions as a couple
Decision-making can be challenging for anyone, but when a couple needs to make a collective decision, the challenge becomes greater, psychologist Dr. Josh Klapow says. The key is to recognize that the decision-making process is the same regardless of the type of decision, Dr. Klapow says.
"Making decisions as a couple is not so much about what you decide on, but rather how you go about the process of making the decision," he says. "If you approach each decision with the same game plan, then over time, you will become experts at decision-making."
Dr. Klapow shares his five "smart" (set, monitor, arrange, recruit and treat) steps to collective decision-making.
Set a specific goal
Make sure you are very specific about what you want, Dr. Klapow says. For example, a goal of saving money is not specific enough; however, saying that you want to save an extra $100 per month by automatic deduction from your paychecks to pay off your credit card is specific.
"The more specific you are, the better," he says.
Monitor your discussion
As you are discussing the decision at hand, make sure you are staying on track, Dr. Klapow says.
"Very often couples will start discussing a goal and stray to some other topic, which can lead to frustration," he says. "If you notice yourself or your spouse getting off the subject, quickly come back to the specific goal."
Arrange the situation for success
Decision-making doesn't work well when someone is tired, hungry, short of time or preoccupied with other activities.
"Before you start the discussion, make sure each of you is in the right frame of mind and you have the time," Dr. Klapow says. If not, take a break from the discussion because it likely won't be productive.
Recruit support from one another
A collective decision means that sometimes there will be a compromise, Dr. Klapow says. If you are going into the discussion to win, then you are not making a collective decision -- you are fighting a battle, he says.
"Remind each other that you are a team and that you are in it to win collectively, not necessarily individually," he says.
Treat yourselves
Because decision-making can be one of the toughest challenges a couple faces, celebrate the success of a decision together.
"A hug, a celebratory reward -- anything that acknowledges that together you have accomplished this task -- will help keep you motivated to make decisions together again," Dr. Klapow says.

Khayalat Aise Ho Ke Kabhi Gam Na Ho

HEART PRINTS
* Heart Prints *
Whatever our hands touch---
We leave fingerprints!
On walls, on furniture,
On doorknobs, dishes, books,
As we touch we leave our identity.
Oh please where ever I go today,
Help me leave heartprints!
Heartprints of compassion
Of understanding and love.
Heartprints of kindness
and genuine concern.
A person who cannot Love people starts loving objects.
Have A Loving Day.....Friends
Take Care...... U R PRECIOUS
There is a light that shines beyond all things on earth,
beyond the highest, the very highest heavens.
This is the light that shines in your heart."

HOW TO APPROACH GIRLS
How To Approach Us Girls- A Woman's Point Of View
It seems so easy when you see other guys doing it! However, you may find that approaching a girl , telling her that you like her or asking her out, is Mission Impossible for you!
Don’t worry, us girls won’t easily admit it, but the fact is that we feel flattered most of the times we are approached... at least, if you do it right!
However, approaching a girl means you have to face the possibility of being rejected, and no one likes that!
In order to minimize this awful turn of events coming true, next time you go for it, pay attention to certain signals us girls send. You may have probably noticed by now that women who like a guy won’t approach him, but wait for the man to do the first move.
Certainly, you can’t expect a girl to do a direct approach: it’s you who have to take the chance, because we also fear rejection! On the other hand, it’s not that us girls don’t communicate: we may not be using words, but we are constantly sending signals through body language.
For Example:
* Eye contact: Girls may flirt through a short period of eye contact, then glancing away, and then looking back at you to see if you maintained the contact.
* Tossing the hair: A girl who plays with her hair is definitely trying to catch a guy’s attention.
* Touching the edge of our glass: Very common signal in bars and discos!
Helpful Tips
Next time you go to a disco, a bar or a club, a good exercise you can do is just sitting there and watching.
Observe the way girls act around boys they like, as well as how they respond with their body language when a guy they’re not interested comes near.
Look at men too, you may recognize in them certain signals you are sending as well (whether intentionally, or not!). If you have a girl who is a close friend, you may even ask her for help: tell her to point at those girls who are flirting, since us women recognize in others the same body language that we use.
When you finally approach a girl, don’t look desperate: asking for her number immediately is a bad idea.
She may think you do that to every girl around!
First, talk to her, get to know her, take the time to know who she is and what you could have in common. Only then you may ask for her number or ask her on a date.
Us girls like guys who make us laugh, who we can trust, who shows that he cares and who listen to us. Demonstrate you could be one of those guys, and you'll get the girl for sure!
Eye Contact
One of the leading causes of guys getting rejected when they approach the girl is that they don't make eye contact.
* Don't look at the floor!
* Don't mumble!
* Don't stare at her upper body area!
Girls want confident men to approach them. They want someone who doesn't make them nervous and eye contact helps with that.
Girls are very quick to pick up on a man's confidence and would reject him quickly just on this basis alone.
Smiling
Smiling is the simplest way to recognize whether or not the girl has an interest in you! When you smile at her, she would most probably smile back at you if she was ready to be approached.
* Smile but DO NOT STARE!
BUT, if she has a blank expression on her face or maybe just looks away as if trying to ignore you then she is not willing to be approached and you should avoid a possible rejection and move on to someone else.
Positive Body Language
Positive nonverbal communication is very important to be able to approach a girl effectively and receive the appropriateresponse.
When a girl senses that you're nervous with your approach she is more likely to reject you especially if she fidgets and feels tense. She may be uncomfortable and she'll show it.
* Is her body facing you or away from you?
* Is she smiling?
"If you want to make her feel comfortable about YOU approaching HER, then you have to feel comfortable YOURSELF."
A woman will feed off whatever energy you are sending out. When you send out a message that you are nervous and apprehensive about approaching her, then what do you think she is going to end up feeling ?
That same nervous and apprehensive energy that you're feeling, she'll feel!!
You can eliminate this by instead being relaxed and not feeling nervous at all. Just say to yourself, "There's nothing really bad that can happen from approaching this woman".
"Women like to be approached by guys, just as long as you're not doing so with the hopes of dating her."
Does that make any sense?
Even though a part of her will probably guess that this may be the reason why you are approaching her, it shouldn't be so apparent.
She can't think that this is all you want to do.
It has to be a lot more natural to approach a woman and get a conversation started. After some chemistry has been built up, then work your way into getting a date with her. If she is out at a bar or a club, chances are, she is open to being approached by a guy, as long as he doesn't seem like just another guy that wants to hook up.
It seems so easy when you see other guys doing it! However, you may find that approaching a girl , telling her that you like her or asking her out, is Mission Impossible for you!

20 Great Ways to Find More Free Time
“The real problem of leisure time is how to keep others from using yours.” - Arthur Lacey
Are there a hundred different things you wish you could do with your life someday “” anything from exercising to meditation or yoga to writing that novel you always wished you could write to reading more to relaxing and watching the sunrise? But perhaps you never have the time, like most people.
The truth is, we all have the same amount of time, and it’s finite and in great demand. But some of us have made the time for doing the things we love doing, and others have allowed the constant demands and pressures and responsibilities of life to dictate their days.
It’s time to move from the second group back into the first. Reclaim your time. Create the life you want and make the most of the free time you lay claim to. It’s not hard, though it does take a little bit of effort and diligence.
Not all of these will be applicable to your life “” choose the ones you can apply and give them a try:
1. Take a time out. Freeing up your time starts with taking a step back to take a good look at your life. You need to block off at least an hour. Several hours or half a day is better. A whole day would be awesome. A weekend would be even more ideal, though not necessary practical for many folks. With this block of time, take a look at your life with some perspective. Is it what you’ve always wanted? How would you get to where you’ve always wanted to be? What do you enjoy doing, but don’t have enough time to do? What things actually fill up your day? Are there things you could drop or minimize to make more time? We’ll look at some of these things in the following items, but it starts with taking a time out to think and plan.
2. Find your essentials. What is it that you love to do? Make a short list of 4-5 things. These are the things you want to make room for.
3. Find your time-wasters. What do you spend a lot of your time on that isn’t on your essential list? Take a close look at these things and really think about whether they’re necessary, or if there are ways to reduce, minimize or eliminate these things. Sometimes you do things because you assume they’re necessary, but if you give it some thought you can find ways to drop them from your life. Figure out what you do simply to waste time “” maybe surfing certain sites, watching TV, talking a lot at the water cooler, etc. You’re going to want to minimize these time-wasters to make room for the more important stuff, the stuff that makes you happy and that you love to do.
4. Schedule the time. As you sit down and think about your life and what you want to do, versus what you actually do, you will be looking at ways to free up time. It’s crucial that you take a blank weekly schedule (you can just write it out on a piece of paper, or use your calendar) and assign blocks for the things you love “” the stuff on your essentials list. If you want to exercise, for example, when will you do it? Put the blocks of time on your schedule, and make these blocks the most important appointments of your week. Schedule the rest of your life around these blocks.
5. Consolidate. There are many things you do, scattered throughout your day or your week, that you might be able to consolidate in order to save time. A good example is errands “” instead of running one or two a day, do them all in one day to save time and gas. Another example is email, or any kind of communication “” batch process your email instead of checking and reading and responding throughout the day. Same thing with meetings, paperwork, anything that you do regularly.
6. Cut out meetings. This isn’t possible for everyone, but in my experience meetings take up a lot of time to get across a little information, or to make easy decisions that could be made via email or phone. As much as you can, minimize the number of meetings you hold and attend. In some cases this might mean talking to your boss and telling her that you have other priorities, and asking to be excused. In other cases this might mean asking the people holding the meeting if you can get the info in other ways. If so, you’ve saved yourself an hour or so per meeting (sometimes more).
7. De clutter your schedule. If you have a heavily packed schedule, full of meetings and errands and tasks and projects and appointments, you’re going to want to weed it out so that it’s not so jam-packed. Find the stuff that’s not so essential and cancel them. Postpone other stuff. Leave big blank spaces in your schedule.
8. Re-think your routine. Often we get stuck in a routine that’s anything but what we really want our days to be like. Is there a better way of doing things? You’re the creator of your life “” make a new routine that’s more pleasant, more optimal, more filled with things you love.
9. Cut back on email. I mentioned email in an earlier point above, regarding consolidating, but it’s such a major part of most people’s lives that it deserves special attention. How often do you check email? How much time do you spend composing emails? If you spend a major part of your work day on email, as many people do (and as I once did), you can free up a lot of time by reducing the time you spend in email. Now, this won’t work for everyone, but it can work for many people: choose 2-3 key times during the day to process your inbox to empty, and keep your responses to 5 sentences.
10. Learn to say no. If you say “yes” to every request, you will never have any free time. Get super protective about your time, and say “no” to everything but the essential requests.
11. Keep your list to 3. When you make out your daily to-do list, just list the three Most Important Tasks you want to accomplish today. Don’t make a laundry list of tasks, or you’ll fill up all your free time. By keeping your task list small, but populated only by important tasks, you ensure that you are getting the important stuff done but not overloading yourself.
12. Do your Biggest Rock first. Of the three Most Important Tasks you choose for the day, pick the biggest one, or the one you’re dreading most, and do that first. Otherwise you’ll put that off as much as possible and fill your day with less important things. Don’t allow yourself to check email until that Big Rock is taken care of. It starts your day with a sense of major accomplishment, and leaves you with a lot of free time the rest of the day, because the most important thing is already done.
13. Delegate. If you have subordinates or coworkers who can do a task or project, try to delegate it. Don’t feel like you need to do everything yourself. If necessary, spend a little time training the person to whom you’re delegating the task, but that little time spent training will pay off in a lot of time saved later. Delegating allows you to focus on the core tasks and projects you should be focusing on.
14. Cut out distractions. What is there around your workspace that distracts you from the task at hand? Sometimes it’s visual clutter, or papers lying around that call for your attention and action, or email or IM notifiers on your computer that pop up at the wrong time, or the phone, or coworkers. See if you can eliminate as many of these as possible “” the more you can focus, the more effective you’ll be and the less time you’ll waste. That equals time saved for the good stuff.
15. Disconnect. The biggest of distractions, for most people, is the Internet. My most productive times are when I’m disconnected from the grid. Now, I’m not saying you need to be disconnected all the time, but if you really want to be able to effectively complete tasks, disconnect your Internet so you can really focus. Set certain times of the day for connectivity, and only connect during those periods.
16. Outsource. If you can’t delegate, see if you can outsource. With the Internet, we can connect with people from all over the world. I’ve outsourced many things, from small tasks to checking email to legal work to design and editing work and more. That allows me to focus on the things I’m best at, the things I love doing, and saves me a lot of time.
17. Make use of your mornings. I find that mornings are the absolute best times to schedule the things I really want to do. I run, read and write in the mornings “” three of the four things on my Essentials List (spending time with family is the other thing on the list). Mornings are great because your day hasn’t been filled with a bunch of unscheduled, demanding, last-minute tasks that will push back those Essentials. For example, if you schedule something for late afternoon, by the time late afternoon rolls around, you might have a dozen other things newly added to your to-do list, and you’ll put off that late-afternoon Essential. Instead, schedule it for the morning, and it’ll rarely (if ever) get pushed back.
18. The Golden Right-after-work Time. Other than mornings, I find the time just after work to be an incredible time for doing Essential things. Exercise, for example, is great in the 5-o’clock hour, as is spending time with family, or doing anything else relaxing.
19. Your evenings. The time before you go to bed is also golden, as it exists every single day, and it’s usually completely yours to schedule. What do you want to do with this time? Read? Spend time with your kids? Work on a hobby you’re passionate about? Take advantage of this time.
20. Lunch breaks. If the three golden times mentioned above don’t work for you, lunch breaks are another good opportunity to schedule things. Some people like to exercise, or to take quiet times, during their lunch breaks. Others use this time to work on an important personal goal or project.

Good habits
Developing good habits is the basic of personal development and growth. Everything we do is the result of a habit that was previously taught to us. Unfortunately, not all the habits that we have are good, that’s why we are constantly trying to improve.
The following is a list of 30 practical habits that can make a huge difference in your life.
You should treat this list as a reference, and implement just one habit per month. This way you will have the time to fully absorb each of them, while still seeing significant improvements each month.
Health habits
Exercise 30 minutes every day. Especially if you don’t do much movement while working, it’s essential that you get some daily exercise. 30 minutes every day are the minimum recommended for optimal health.
Eat breakfast every day. Breakfast is the more important meal of the day, yet so many people skip it. Personally, I like to eat a couple of toasts in the morning along with a fruit beverage.
Sleep 8 hours. Sleep deprivation is never a good idea. You may think that you are gaining time by sleeping less, when in reality you are only gaining stress and tiredness. 8 hours are a good number of hours for most people, along with an optional 20 minutes nap after lunch.
Avoid snacking between meals. Snacking between meals is the best way to gain weight. If you are hungry, eat something concrete. Otherwise don’t. Update: for clarification, I mean don’t eat junk food between meals, but eating real food it’s ok.
Eat five portions of fruits and vegetables every day. Our body and brain loves getting vegetables and fruit, so I highly recommend eating as much of them as possible. Five portions is the dose that’s usually recommended by many health associations.
Eat fish. Fish is rich of omega 3 and other healthy elements. At least one meal per week of fish should be enough for getting all these nutrients.
Drink one glass of water when you wake up. When you wake up, your body is dehydrated and needs liquid. Make the habit of drinking one glass of water after you wake up in the morning. Also, drink more during the day.
Avoid soda. Soda is often one of the most unhealthy beverage you can find. Limit your consumption of soda as much as possible and you’re body will be grateful for that.
Keep your body clean. I don’t advise spending your day in front of the mirror, but a minimum of personal care does never hurt.
If you smoke, stop it. There’s no reason to smoke anymore, and quitting is possible.
If you drink, stop it. Same as above. Don’t think that alcohol will solve your problems. It never does. The only exception is one glass of wine per day during meals.
Take the stairs. This is just a hack that forces you to do a minimum of exercise. Instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs.
Productivity habits
Use an inbox system. Make the habit of keeping track of all the ideas and things that comes to mind. You can use a notebook to do this, and then sync everything on your computer.
Prioritize. If you have a list of things to do, where do you start? One way is to prioritize your list. If you are in doubt, ask yourself: “If I could only accomplish one thing today, what would it be?”
Plan, but not too much. Planning is important, and you should decide in advance what you are going to do today or this week. However, planning for more than a few weeks is usually inefficient, so I would not worry too much about that.
Wake up early. Waking up early in the morning is a great way to gain extra time. I personally like to wake up at 5 am, so that by 9 am I have already accomplished what otherwise would have taken me many days..
Check your email only twice per day. Email can easily become an addiction, but it’s usually unnecessary to check it every 10 minutes. Make an effort and check your email only once or twice per day, see if the world will still rotate as before after you try this.
Eliminate unimportant tasks. Being busy all day does not mean you are doing important stuff. Eliminate every activity that’s not important, and focus on what really matters.
Clean off your desk and room. Having a clear room and desk is important to maintain focus and creativity.
Automate. There are a lot of tasks that you need to perform every day or every week. Try to automate them as much as possible.
Set strict deadlines. When you do something, decide in advance when you’re going to stop. There’s a rule that states that you will fulfill all the time you have available for completing a task, so make an habit of setting strict deadlines for maximizing your productivity.
Take one day off per week. Instead of working every day, take one day off per week (for example sunday) where you are not going to turn on your computer. Use that time for doing recreational activities like going for a walk.
Personal Development habits
Read 1 book per week. Reading is a good way to keep your brain active. With just 30 minutes per day you should be able to read one book per week, or more than 50 books per year.
Solve puzzles. Quizzes, word games, etc. are all good ways to exercise your brain.
Think positively. You are what you think, all the time.
Make fast decisions. Instead of thinking for one hour wherever you are going to do something, make your decisions as fast as possible (usually less than 1 minute).
Wait before buying. Waiting 48 hours before buying anything is a tremendous money saver, try it.
Meditate 30 minutes per day. A great way to gain clearness and peace is through meditation. 30 minutes are not a lot, but enough to get you started with meditation.
Career habits
Start a blog. Blogging is one of the best way to put your word out. It doesn’t have to be around a specific topic, even a personal blog will do.
Build a portfolio. If your job is creating stuff, building a portfolio is a great way to show what you are capable of. You can also contribute stuff for free if that applies to your work.

ant can solve maths
Washington: An ant colony is probably the last place one would expect to find a maths whiz, but a study has shown that they could solve complex, dynamic problems, and may even help computer experts develop better software.
An international team has found the ants are capable of solving difficult mathematical problems and also able to do what few computer algorithms can — adapt optimal solution to fit a problem, the Journal of Experimental Biology reported.
Using a novel technique, scientists tested whether Argentine ants could solve a dynamic optimisation problem by converting classic Towers of Hanoi maths puzzle into a maze. But since ants cannot move disks, they converted the puzzle into a maze where the shortest path corresponds to the solution with fewest moves in the toy puzzle.
The ants were given one hour to solve the maze by creating a high traffic path between their nest and the food source, after which time the researchers blocked off paths and opened up new areas of the maze to test the ants' dynamic problem solving ability.
After an hour, the ants solved the Towers of Hanoi by finding shortest path around the edge of the maze. “Finding the most efficient path through a busy network is a common challenge faced by delivery drivers, telephone routers and engineers,” says Chris Reid, who led the study. AGENCIES

Acne is caused due to impure blood or constipation
Acne is caused by excessive secretion of sebaceous glands, hormonal imbalances and stress. Impure blood or constipation has nothing to do with it. You can control acne by avoiding fancy scented soaps, oil massages and excessive moisturising. Have more green leafy vegetables in your diet and keep your face clean.
Oiling hair every day encourages growth
It’s one of the most popular Indian myths. Oiling hair merely protects it from dust, pollution, colour and external pollutants. Regular application of oil has no relation with hair growth. When you scrub oil on your scalp, the hair merely soaks it up. It is then protected from external factors. Oil cannot stimulate growth, so don’t expect any Rapunzel effect.
Cracking knuckles causes arthritis
Very often elders might stop you from cracking knuckles, warning it could cause arthritis. However, that’s wrong. Accumulation of gases around the joints causes air bubbles which burst when we crack them and the air is released. Arthritis is caused because of excessive strain on one muscle, ageing and because of infection in a joint.
All types of cholesterol are bad
There are two kinds of cholesterol, the HDL, which is the good one, and LDL — the bad one. Foods such as olive oil, nuts, oily fish, soya oil are good sources of HDL. Good cholesterol prevents the harmful effects of LDL ie., choking of blood vessels. On the other hand, foods like vegetable oil, mayonnaise, cheese, butter are the evil ones that congest the arteries.
One must drink eight glasses of water daily
Everyone’s been recommending this trick, from the supermodel in a beauty magazine to your neighbourhood aunt. Yes, water is good for the body, but the need varies from one person to another. For example, a kidney or a heart patient may need more than eight glasses of water. Also, if your diet is high on other water sources you needn’t necessarily consume eight glasses per day. Soup, cucumber, water melon and other foods high on water content should also be counted. But, if you manage to gulp down more than eight glasses of water, good for you!
Reading in poor light ruins eyesight
This one is another old wives’ tale. Reading in dim light merely strains the eye temporarily causing headaches but doesn’t ruin them. Nor does it make eyes more prone to eye infections. However, stressing the eyes for a long period may have adverse consequences. Factors such as staring at the computer screen for too long, etc can be blamed for ruining the eyes in a short span.
Chocolate is bad for your teeth
Attention, chocoholics! Chocolate has no reason to make your teeth bad. In fact, a sticky molten cheese pizza may have a worse effect on your teeth than a harmless bar of chocolate. The bottom line being anything that sticks to your teeth needs to be cleaned and if it stays there for a long time, it’s likely to cause decay.
You must sweat when exercising
Sweating has no relation to weight loss when exercising. People sweat because their body is getting heated while performing a workout and needs to cool down. And everyone has a different sweating pattern. It varies as per age, sex and most importantly one’s environment. And with most gyms, having air conditioning, you can end up working out twice as much and still not sweat a drop.
Overeating sweets leads to diabetes
People eating sweets have an equal chance of getting diabetes as those who stay off it. Diabetes is mainly caused due to accumulation of glucose in the body or by the inability of the pancreas to regulate the sugar level. It can be triggered off by sugar but not really caused by it.
All health foods are good
With the amount of soya bars and protein shakes hitting the market, everyone’s been gorging on health foods. However, most of them are packed with preservatives. Also, it’s important to use them as substitutes, not as add-ons to regular diet.
When it’s about your health, do not go by hearsay. We speak to some experts to debunk some of the most common myths

NEW YEAR'S RECIPE
Recipe for the New Year
Take twelve fine, full-grown months;
See that these are thoroughly free from old memories of bitterness, rancor and hate,
Cleanse them completely from every clinging spite;
Pick off all specks of pettiness and littleness;
In short, see that these months are freed from all the past—
Have them fresh and clean as when they first came from the great storehouse of Time.
Cut these months into thirty or thirty-one equal parts.
Do not attempt to make up the whole batch at one time (so many persons spoil the entire lot this way) but prepare one day at a time.
Into each day put equal parts of
Faith,
Patience,
Courage,
Work (some people omit this ingredient and so spoil the flavor of the rest),
Hope,
Fidelity,
Liberality,
Kindness,
Rest (leaving this out is like leaving the oil out of the salad dressing— don’t do it),
Prayer,
Meditation,
And
One well-selected resolution.
Put in about one teaspoonful of good spirits,
A dash of fun,
A pinch of folly,
A sprinkling of play,
And
A heaping cupful of good humor.

GOD HA PURPOSE
God has kept me here for a reason.
I survived because He has a plan for me.
All my bad relationships, the consequences,
the hard times, the sad times, the death of my loved ones,
the back stabbing from my friends, the negative thoughts,
or the lack of support; I made it because I am blessed!
because I am abundantly blessed!
I recognize them as the illusions they are,
and sent from the enemy to kill my spirit,
steal my joy, and destroy my faith;
For God is all there is.
All else is a lie! Now give yourself a hug,
wipe your tears away and walk in victory!!!!!!!!
I love you, but more appropriately God loves you BEST!
Be blessed and know that you are at one with
THE SPIRIT OF THE LIVING GOD!
And may the Lord keep watch between you
and me when we are away from each other.
Now since you are a true child of God, you know that with every
blessing, a blessing is required! So be a blessing to another person.
"The Will of GOD will never take you where the
GRACE of GOD will not protect you.
Your Loving Friend!!

GOOD BEHAVIOR
What do you think? What are the habits that changed your life?
The following is a list of 30 practical habits that can make a huge difference in your life.
You should treat this list as a reference, and implement just one habit per month. This way you will have the time to fully absorb each of them, while still seeing significant improvements each month.

HOW TO STOP MISBEHAVIOR
How do I stop misbehavior?
The best way to stop unwanted behavior is to ignore it. This way works best over a period of time. When you want the behavior to stop immediately, you can use the time-out method.
How do I use the time-out method?
Decide ahead of time the behaviors that will result in a time-out (usually tantrums, or aggressive or dangerous behavior). Choose a time-out place that is uninteresting for the child and not frightening, such as a chair, corner or playpen. When you're away from home, consider using a car or a nearby seating area as a time-out place.
When the unacceptable behavior occurs, tell the child the behavior is unacceptable and give a warning that you will put him or her in time-out if the behavior doesn't stop. Remain calm and don't look angry. If your child goes on misbehaving, calmly take him or her to the time-out area.
If possible, keep track of how long your child's been in time-out. Set a timer so your child will know when time-out is over. Time-out should be brief (generally 1 minute for each year of age), and should begin immediately after reaching the time-out place or after the child calms down. You should stay within sight or earshot of the child, but don't talk to him or her. If the child leaves the time-out area, gently return him or her to the area and consider resetting the timer. When the time-out is over, let the child leave the time-out place. Don't discuss the bad behavior, but look for ways to reward and reinforce good behavior later on.
How do I encourage a new, desired behavior?
One way to encourage good behavior is to use a reward system. Children who learn that bad behavior is not tolerated and that good behavior is rewarded are learning skills that will last them a lifetime. This works best in children older than 2 years of age. It can take up to 2 months to work. Being patient and keeping a diary of behavior can be helpful to parents.
Choose 1 to 2 behaviors you would like to change (for example, bedtime habits, tooth brushing or picking up toys). Choose a reward your child would enjoy. Examples of good rewards are an extra bedtime story, delaying bedtime by half an hour, a preferred snack or, for older children, earning points toward a special toy, a privilege or a small amount of money.
Explain the desired behavior and the reward to the child. For example, "If you get into your pajamas and brush your teeth before this TV show is over, you can stay up a half hour later." Request the behavior only one time. If the child does what you ask, give the reward. You can help the child if necessary but don't get too involved. Because any attention from parents, even negative attention, is so rewarding to children, they may prefer to have parental attention instead of a reward at first. Transition statements, such as, "In 5 minutes, play time will be over," are helpful when you are teaching your child new behaviors.
This system helps you avoid power struggles with your child. However, your child is not punished if he or she chooses not to behave as you ask; he or she simply does not get the reward.

What are some good ways to reward my child?
Beat the Clock (good method for a dawdling child)
Ask the child to do a task. Set a timer. If the task is done before the timer rings, your child gets a reward. To decide the amount of time to give the child, figure out your child's "best time" to do that task and add 5 minutes.
The Good Behavior Game (good for teaching a new behavior)
Write a short list of good behaviors on a chart and mark the chart with a star each time you see the good behavior. After your child has earned a small number of stars (depending on the child's age), give him or her a reward.
Good Marks/Bad Marks (best method for difficult, highly active children)
In a short time (about an hour) put a mark on a chart or on your child's hand each time you see him or her performing a good behavior. For example, if you see your child playing quietly, solving a problem without fighting, picking up toys or reading a book, you would mark the chart. After a certain number of marks, give your child a reward. You can also make negative marks each time a bad behavior occurs. If you do this, only give your child a reward if there are more positive marks than negative marks.
Developing Quiet Time (often useful when you're making supper)
Ask your child to play quietly alone or with a sibling for a short time (maybe 30 minutes). Check on your child frequently (every 2 to 5 minutes, depending on the child's age) and give a reward or a token for each few minutes they were quiet or playing well. Gradually increase the intervals (go from checking your child's behavior every 2 to 5 minutes to checking every 30 minutes), but continue to give rewards for each time period your child was quiet or played well.

What else can I do to help my child behave well?
Make a short list of important rules and go over them with your child. Avoid power struggles, no-win situations and extremes. When you think you've overreacted, it's better to use common sense to solve the problem, even if you have to be inconsistent with your reward or punishment method. Avoid doing this often as it may confuse your child.
Accept your child's basic personality, whether it's shy, social, talkative or active. Basic personality can be changed a little, but not very much. Try to avoid situations that can make your child cranky, such as becoming overly stimulated, tired or bored. Don't criticize your child in front of other people. Describe your child's behavior as bad, but don't label your child as bad. Praise your child often when he or she deserves it. Touch him or her affectionately and often. Children want and need attention from their parents.
Develop little routines and rituals, especially at bedtimes and meal times. Provide transition remarks (such as "In 5 minutes, we'll be eating dinner."). Allow your child choices whenever possible. For example, you can ask, "Do you want to wear your red pajamas or your blue pajamas to bed tonight?"
As children get older, they may enjoy becoming involved in household rule making. Don't debate the rules at the time of misbehavior, but invite your child to participate in rule making at another time.

Why shouldn't I use physical punishment?
Parents may choose to use physical punishment (such as spanking) to stop undesirable behavior. The biggest drawback to this method is that although the punishment stops the bad behavior for a while, it doesn't teach your child to change his or her behavior. Disciplining your child is really just teaching him or her to choose good behaviors. If your child doesn't know a good behavior, he or she is likely to return to the bad behavior. Physical punishment becomes less effective with time and can cause the child to behave aggressively. It can also be carried too far -- into child abuse. Other methods of punishment are preferred and should be used whenever possible.

WOMEN MYSTERY
Stephen Hawking Admits He Finds Women 'A Complete Mystery'
Physicist who has grappled with cosmic inflation and a quantum theory of gravity says he is baffled by women.
Actress Jane Fonda kisses Stephen Hawking after a preview performance of a play in Los Angeles in 2011.
His career has shed light on the secrets of the universe, from the nature of space-time to the workings of black holes, but there is one conundrum that still baffles the world's most famous scientist.
In an interview to mark his 70th birthday this weekend, Stephen Hawking, the former Lucasian professor of mathematics at Cambridge University, admitted he spent most of the day thinking about women. "They are," he said "a complete mystery."
Professor Hawking, whose stardom has included spots on The Simpsons and Star Trek, spoke to New Scientist magazine ahead of an international conference held in his honour that begins on Thursday in Cambridge.
The meeting will culminate in a public symposium on Sunday when some of the world's most prominent physicists give a series of talks on the state of the universe. Among them will be Lord Rees, the Astronomer Royal, Saul Perlmutter, who won the Nobel prize in physics in 2011, and Kip Thorne at the California Institute of Technology.
Earlier this week, eminent researchers expressed admiration and respect for Professor Hawking, a scientist who inspired colleagues and students while forging ahead with fresh insights into some of the most intangible puzzles to hand.
Hawking has made a string of contributions to cosmology throughout a career that many doubted would last as long as it has after he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease at the age of 21. He worked on the inflation of the early universe, a quantum theory of gravity, and famously showed that black holes emit radiation and so slowly disappear.
Asked about the most exciting development in physics during the course of his career, Hawking mentioned the findings of Nasa's Cobe (Cosmic Background Explorer) spacecraft and subsequent confirmation by a later mission called the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP). Together, they made a map of the heavens that revealed the afterglow of the big bang "in excellent agreement with the predictions of inflation", he told the magazine.
As for his greatest mistake, Hawking said: "I used to think information was destroyed in black holes", a belief he later revised. "This was my biggest blunder, or at least my biggest blunder in science." But his work in the field led to the theoretical breakthrough, so far unconfirmed by experiment, that black holes leak information back into the universe through quantum mechanical effects.
The Large Hadron Collider at Cern, the European particle physics laboratory near Geneva, could do more than anything else to revolutionise scientists' understanding of the universe, Hawking said. The machine could find "supersymmetric" particles, which are partners of the more familiar subatomic particles. Such a finding would be "strong evidence" for M-theory, a version of string theory that describes gravity and the other forces of nature in an 11-dimensional universe.

GEETA
Chapter 4 : Verse 7 – 9
7.
"Whenever, O Bharat, righteousness (dharm) declines and unrighteousness is rampant, I manifest myself."
Krishn tells the devout Arjun that when hearts fall into inertia in regard to the Supreme Spirit, the most sublime dharm, and when the pious are unable to see how to cross safely to the other bank, he begins to shape his form in order to manifest himself. Such a feeling of weariness had come to Manu. Goswami Tulsidas has written of his grief-laden heart because his life had passed without contemplation of God. When despairing tears flow from the eyes of loving worshippers because of their overpowering feeling of helplessness at their inability to steer across unrighteousness, God begins to mould his form into a manifest shape. But that also implies that God manifests himself to only loving worshippers and only for their well-being.God’s incarnation comes about only within the heart of a blessed worshipper. But what does the manifest God do?
8.
"I manifest myself from age to age to defend the pious, destroy the wicked, and strengthen dharm."
God manifests himself as a saviour of saintly men. He, the adored, is the one God after attaining whom there is nothing else to contemplate. Krishn assumes a manifest form from age to age to destroy impediments that obstruct the smooth flow of righteous impulses such as wisdom, renunciation and restraint, as also to annihilate the demoniacal forces of passion, anger, attachment and repugnance, and to reinforce dharm."Age", as used by Krishn here, does not refer to historical ages like the Golden Age (Satyug) or the Iron Age (Kaliyug). It rather alludes to the stages of rise and fall, of the waxing and waning, of dharm through which human nature has to pass. These are stages of dharm and the human heart has to progress through them. Goswami Tulsidas has written about it in Ram Charit Manas (7. 10).- the devotional retelling and translation of the Indian epic, Ramayan from Sanskrit into the language of the people by the poet Tulsidas. The stages of dharm undergo variation in every heart at all times, not because of ignorance but because of the operation of the divine power of maya. This is what has been named atm-maya in the sixth verse of the chapter. Inspired by God, this knowledge is the one which makes the heart a veritable dwelling of God. But how can one know through which Stage one is passing at the moment? When virtue and moral goodness (sattwa) alone are active in the heart, when passion and ignorance have subsided, when all fears are stilled, when there is no feeling of repulsion, when there is the necessary strength to rest firmly on the signals that are received from the desired goal, when the mind is overflowing with happiness-then alone is one enabled to enter into the Golden Age. On the other hand, when the forces of darkness (tamas), combined with passion and moral blindness (rajas), are sweeping through, when there are animosities and conflicts all around, the worshipper is passing through the Iron Age (Kaliyug). When there is predominance of ignorance and abundance of lethargy, slumber and procrastination, that is the stage of the Kaliyug of dharm. The man passing through this stage does not do his duty even though he knows it. He knows what he is forbidden to do, and yet he does it. These stages of dharm, of its ascent and descent, are determined by innate properties. These stages are the four ages (yug) according to some, the four classes (varn) according to others, and the four levels of spiritual seeking-excellent, good, medium, and low-according to yet others. In all the stages God stands by the worshipper. Nevertheless, there is a plenty of divine favour at the highest stage, whereas the assistance appears to be meagre at the lower stages. So Krishn tells Arjun that a worshipper who is earnestly devoted to his ultimate goal is a sage, but he can be saved only when the flow of divine impulses such as wisdom, renunciation, and self-restraint, which provide access to the object, is unimpeded. Similarly, doers of wicked deeds are not undone just by the destruction of their nonexistent mortal bodies, because they will be reborn with the same wicked impressions (sanskar) they had earned in the previous life, and do the same evil which they had done before. So Krishn manifests himself in all ages to destroy moral perversions and to strengthen dharm. Installation of the one changeless God alone is the final destruction of evil.In brief, Krishn has said that he manifests himself again and again, in all circumstances and categories, to destroy evil and foster good, and to strengthen faith in the Supreme Spirit. But he does this only if there is profound regret in the worshippers’ heart. So long as the grace of the worshipped God is not with us, we cannot even know whether evil has been destroyed or how much of it still remains. From the beginning to the moment of final attainment, God stays by the worshipper at all stages. He manifests himself only in the devotee’s heart. Doesn’t everyone see him when he manifests himself? According to Krishn it is not so.

"He who has perceived the essence of my radiant incarnations and works, O Arjun, is never born again after discarding his body, but dwells in me.’’
God’s incarnation, his gradual manifestation through profound remorse, and his works-eradication of hindrances which generate evil, provision of the essentials of Self-realization, and reinstatement of dharm- are not like the birth and deeds of mortals. Perceived only as abstractions, God’s incarnation and operations cannot be seen with physical eyes. He cannot be measured by mind and wisdom. God, so inscrutable and mysterious, is perceptible only to him who has known the reality. Only he can view God’s incarnation and works, and once he has made this direct perception, he is not born again but dwells in Krishn. When seers alone can see God’s incarnation and works, why do we have these crowds of hundreds of thousands of men awaiting the birth of God so that they can see him? Are we all seers? There are many who masquerade as sages, mainly by dressing as holy men, and who claim that they are incarnations, and whose agents resort to publicity to prove it. The credulous rush like sheep to have a view of these "God-men," but Krishn affirms that only men of perfection can see God. Now, who is this man we call a seer?Giving his verdict on the real and the false in Chapter 2, Krishn told Arjun that the unreal has no being and that the real has never been nonexistent in all time-past, present and future. This has been the experience of seers rather than of linguists or wealthy men. Now he reiterates that although God manifests himself, only perceivers of essence can see him. He has been united with the ultimate reality and become a seer. We do not become seers by learning to count the five (or twenty-five) elements. Krishn further says that the Soul alone is the ultimate reality. When the Soul is united with this Universal Spirit, he too becomes God. So only a man who has realized the Self can see and comprehend God’s manifestation. It is evident therefore that God manifests himself in a worshippers’s heart. At the outset the worshipper is not able to recognize the power which transmits signals to him. Who is showing him the way? But after he has perceived the truth of the Supreme Spirit, he begins to see and understand, and thereafter when he discards the body he is not reborn.Krishn has said that his manifestation is internal, obscure, and luminous, and that the one who sees his radiance becomes one with him. But instead of this people have made his idols which they worship; and they imagine that he dwells somewhere in heaven. But this is far from the truth. Krishn only means by this that if men do the ordained task, they will find that they too are radiant. What others have the potential to be, Krishn already is. He represents the possibilities of mankind-their future. The day we achieve perfection within ourselves, we will also be what Krishn is; we will be identical with him. Incarnation is never external. If a heart is brimming with love and adoration, there is a possibility of its experiencing the divine incarnation. All the same Krishn provides solace to the common people by telling them that many have realized him by treading on the ordained path.
7 Ways the Mind and Body Change with Age
7 Ways the Mind and Body Change with Age
The poster child of aging seems to be a wrinkly-faced, forgetful, grumpy old man. But science is painting another, more in-depth picture of aging Americans. The elderly tend to become more happy, liberal and in many cases remain pretty darn sharp. Here are 7 ways we change as we get older.
7. Lean liberal
As wrinkles set in, so do a person's rigid beliefs, many people have long assumed. Not true, according to a survey of more than 46,000 Americans between 1972 and 2004. While the study didn't follow individuals as they aged, the results represent snapshots of the changing attitudes of respondents in different age groups. Over time, adults' attitudes got more liberal regarding politics, economics, race, gender, religion and sexuality issues. While the results don't mean your grandma is sure to revert to hippie-dom, on average older adults will head in that direction.
6. Your stem cells age, too
Beneath the sagging skin, the body's cells are also deteriorating. Stem cells, thought to combat aging by replenishing old or damaged cells, also succumb to the wear and tear of aging. Research published in the journal PLoS Biology in 2007, suggests stem cells' regenerative capacity declines as one ages.
In the study, researchers looked at stem cells that give rise to bone marrow that had been isolated from young and old mice. The cells were transplanted into mice whose bone marrow cells had been destroyed.
At first, both young and old stem cells churned out new cells at about the same rate; but later, the old stem cells' repopulating ability dropped off considerably compared with their young counterparts. The scientists suspect genetics is at play, as genes for stress and inflammation became more active in these stem cells with age.
5. Need less sleep
In a study of 110 healthy adults who were allowed eight hours of bed time, the oldest group (ages 66 to 83) snoozed about 20 minutes less than the middle-agers (ages 40 to 55), who in turn slept about 23 minutes less than the youngest group (ages 20 to 30). The simplest explanation for the fewer shut-eye minutes: Older adults need less sleep.
Another explanation, and one supported by research: Older adults just can't get the sleep they need, taking longer to nod off, spending less time in deep sleep, and having more trouble staying asleep. In fact, more than half of men and women over the age of 65 say they suffer from at least one sleep problem, with many experiencing insomnia, according to WebMD.
4. Become more distracted
If you have trouble tuning out extraneous information, from background chatter to flashing billboards, age might not be your friend. As a person gets older, their ability to ignore distractions gets worse, according to Karen Campbell, a doctoral student in psychology at the University of Toronto. But Campbell and her colleagues found a silver lining that might focus you: Seniors might have the unique ability to "hyper-bind" the irrelevant information, tying it to other information appearing at the same time. The ability could ultimately boost memory.
3. Everything starts to sag
Your skin can be a dead giveaway that you've passed the half-century mark. With aging, the skin's outer layer, called the epidermis, thins. At the same time, the skin becomes less elastic and facial fat in the deeper layers of the skin wanes. The result: a loose, saggy façade marked by lines and crevices.
While injections of fillers can help plump up a face, researchers are now finding such cosmetic procedures might not be enough.
That's because jaw, cheek and eye-socket bones also wear down with the march of time, according to research led by Dr. Robert Shaw, Jr., of the University of Rochester. The loss of this "scaffolding" results in upper eyelid droop, plummeting cheeks and jowls that sway in the breeze. The study researchers suggest bone implants might be in order, though as with any surgery there are risks, such as infection and numbness.
2. Still enjoy a good laugh
Laughing is good for you, science has shown. That's good news for older adults who still appreciate humor - providing they understand it, according to a Canadian study published in a 2003 issue of the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society.
"The good news is that aging does not affect emotional responses to humor - we'll still enjoy a good laugh when we get the joke," Prathiba Shammi, a psychologist with Baycrest Center for Geriatric Care, said in a statement. "This preserved affective responsiveness is important because it is integral to social interaction and it has long been postulated that humor may enhance quality of life, assist in stress management, and help us cope with the stresses of aging."
The downside of the study: Older adults had more trouble than spring chickens comprehending humor. They were less able to choose appropriate punch lines for jokes or to select the correct funny cartoon from an array of cartoons. Another research team came to the same conclusions in 2007, that older adults have a harder time "getting a joke" than younger individuals.
1. Have a positive attitude
The stereotypical picture of grumpy old men might not hold weight in science. Age could bring happiness for many people, though whether or not that conclusion is true and the reasons for cheerfulness in old age are debatable.
For instance, a study published in 2008 by Yang Yang, a sociologist at the University of Chicago, suggests the increase in lifespan that’s occurred since the 1970s has been linked with an increase in years of happiness. At the same time, however, health and income – important factors when it comes to happiness – decline with age. Some researchers have pointed out that when you take these two factors into account, the elderly are less happy than their younger counterparts.
Even so, whether well-being stays strong in old age could come down to a person's attitude. Research has shown older adults remember the past through a rose-colored lens; they are more optimistic than younger individuals; and the sick and disabled are just as happy as the rest of us.

BOOST YOUR MEORY
The annual contest, which kicks off on December 1, sees competitors tackle a whole host of mind games, from memorising numbers, words and entire decks of cards to recalling historic dates. But if its as much as you can do to remember your husbands mobile number without using redial, read on for 20 top tips on how to improve your memory. You never know, next year it might be you trouncing the world at the championships...
1. Chunk it
Separating long bits of info, such as phone numbers, into digestible chunks helps us remember. Most people can recall around seven things so, for example, when given the number 33987643134509, break it down into sections: 33 98 76 43 13 45 09.
2. Do not cram
Sorry, students, but cramming does not cut it. Its better to space out your learning. For instance, when learning a foreign language, suggests Dr Chris Moulin of the Leeds Memory Group, dont repeat one word over and over. Repeat it to yourself a couple of times, then move on, and come back to it later.
3. Create cues
If you have to do something every day at a certain time, such as take a pill, then give yourself a cue to help your intention e.g. when the Today programme finishes Ill take my medication.
4. Use images
One way of remembering something, such as a persons name, is to picture it on the persons face. So if you meet a Joe Diamond, imagine a diamond. You will have to get more creative for unusual names but psychologists say the more bizarre the image the better the memory tool.
5. Make it meaningful
Assign meanings to random facts or figures: if you needed to remember the number 50110662012, think Levis jeans, Battle of Hastings, London Olympics.
6. Make it personal
Making anything you want to remember relate to yourself is one of the best memory aids e.g. the Blair government came into power in 1997; you graduated in 1997.
7. The Roman Room method
The Roman Room method is about remembering sequences of information by visualising them in a certain location. Use a place you know well, and take a mental walk through the rooms in a set order. Then put the information from your list one by one into each room so if its Prime Ministers, put Harold Wilson in the hallway, James Callaghan in the living room, Margaret Thatcher in the kitchen and so on. Think about it slowly and itll stick!
8. Be boring
Always forget where you put your keys/purse? Its common sense, but boring routine is memorys best friend. Put those items in the same place every time. We pay little or no attention to mundane events, which is why we can rarely remember where we put our specs while we were busy doing something else.
9. Mnemonics
A mnemonic is a learning technique that aids memory such as Richard of Yorke Gave Battle in Vain to remember the colours of the rainbow. Adopt phrases to remember things; the more bizarre the better. It can help with spelling awkward words or remembering the names of people at a meeting. Rhyming is especially helpful (eg. Thirty days have September, April, June and November).
10. Eat oily fish
Omega-3 oils found in oily fish, as well as walnuts, pumpkin and flax seeds, help to build and maintain something called myelin. The fatty substance helps the nervous system function properly which fires up your powers of concentration.
11. Chomp on choline
Choline, an amino acid in eggs, liver, chicken and soybeans, can protect the brain and boost memory. In fact, a recent study suggested that people with a higher choline intake performed better in memory tests although a long-term healthy diet as a whole is key to maintaining good brain function, with dark leafy vegetables, berries, tomatoes, nuts and seeds all good memory foods.
12. Get moving
A recent Cambridge University study suggests regular aerobicexercise, such as jogging, can boost memory by triggering the growth of new neurons in the brain.
13. Get teaching
Teaching new concepts to another person can aid your own recollection of the material so give a mini lecture to a friend when you are both studying for the same exam.
14. Be positive
According to Harvard health experts, negative stereotypes about ageing contribute to a failing memory. So older learners do worse on memory tests when exposed to pessimistic claims about age and brain power and better if exposed to messages about keeping memory strong well into retirement.
15. Use all your senses
The more senses you use when you experience or learn something, the better your powers of recall later. For example, smells can instantly conjure memories of the distant past - so get sniffing.
16. Write it down
Draw a picture or write down the information you want to remember, even if you never refer to your notes again. Just the action of forming a visual image helps with memory.
17. Repeat, repeat
When you want to remember something new, repeat it out loud if you have just been told some body's name, use it when you speak to that person (So, John, how long have you known Sophie?)
18. Challenge Yourself
Engage in activities that require you to concentrate: join a book club, do crosswords or try new recipes. Anything that taxes your brain will help you maintain skills as you get older.
19. Write, do not type
Your fingers may feel clunky with a Biro when you are used to hammering at a keyboard, but writing longhand can help your brain better process the information you are writing. So when learning something new, get scribbling.
20. Meditate
US studies found that daily meditation thickened the parts of the brain's cerebral cortex responsible for decision making, attention and memory. Try "mindfulness" techniques, focusing on an image, sound or your own breathing.

New Year's Greetings!
Recipe for a Happy, Healthy, Positive, and Productive 2012
* Throw out nonessential numbers; this list includes age, weight and height.
* Keep only cheerful friends; the grouches pull you down.
* Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Just never let the brain idle.
* Enjoy the simple things... When the children are young, that is all that you can afford. When they are in college, that is all that you can afford. When they are grown, and you are on retirement, that is all that you can afford!
* Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. Laugh so much that you can be tracked in the store by your distinctive laughter.
* The tears happen... endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with you your entire life is you.
* Surround yourself with what you love, whether it is family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
* Cherish your health. If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
* Don't take guilt trips. Go to the mall, take a trip to visit friend, the next county, a foreign country, but not guilt.
* Tell the people you love, that you love them, at every opportunity.
Remember - Life isn't measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

HONEYMOON TIPS
1. Knowledge is power. Do some research on the places you plan to visit so you will know what to expect.
This will help eliminate the anxiety of "what-if" running through your head.
2. Rest up before you go -- you'll enjoy your trip more and worry less if you are well rested and energetic.
If flying long distances, you might want to stop over for a night or two along the way.
3. Before you go, make a copy of the opening page of your passport and other important travel documents
and keep them separate from the actual documents when you travel. Then you won't panic if
those documents are lost or stolen.
4. Learn basic phrases of the local language -- you'll feel more in control.
5. Stay connected to friends and family through periodic e-mails or telephone calls -- it will help keep you
from feeling isolated. Make certain to provide them with your itinerary with contact numbers at the
hotels where you'll be staying. You should also bring your cellular phone or purchase a satellite phone
just in case.
6. If music relaxes you, make certain that you take your favorite CD's or tapes along -- you may not be
able to find your favorite titles or artists overseas. Bring along a transistor radio so you can listen to the
BBC or other English language stations.
7. Learn some deep breathing exercises or other relaxation techniques that are easy to do.
8. Exercising can also help you relax. Before booking your hotels, find out what facilities or access to
health clubs they have. If you prefer, there are exercises that can be done on the floor in your hotel
room. Consider bringing along a jump rope or other easy-to-pack exercise product.
9. Try to blend in -- avoid wearing obvious "country specific" symbols such as team sports shirts. Sample
the local culture and take note of and follow local customs, so you won't feel like you're sticking out
from the crowd.
10. Make sure you have a resource for medical and personal safety assistance lined up, such as SOS
Global Traveler assistance services, which provide telephone access 24/7 to your countries doctors.
That way should you need help, you'll always know who to call.
This will help eliminate the anxiety of "what-if" running through your head.
